It’s Smart To Be Proactive!
The best way to keep your aquarium clean is to maintain good water quality. This will keep your fish strong and vibrant, as well as preventing disease.
How Do I Maintain A Healthy Environment?
It is important to test your aquarium water weekly to verify good quality in addition to a bi-weekly partial water change of no more than 25% to help reduce toxic buildup, remove debris the filter missed, and replenish the oxygen available to fish.
How Do I Take Good Care Of My Aquarium & Fish?
- Feed & observe fish daily
- Test water quality weekly
- Change 25% water bi-weekly
- Restore your ecosystem monthly
Feed Your Fish Daily
Feed your fish twice daily with API Fish Food which contains nutritionally enhanced proteins, allowing for easy uptake of nutrients and maximum absorption, resulting in less excrement for clear, clean water. Only give the amount of food fish can eat in 2 to 3 minutes depending on the species. Some fish such as bottom feeders and algae eaters will need up to 30 minutes to 2 hours. Take time to observe fish and the water temperature to ensure they are active & healthy.

Making A Better Underwater World
At API, we understand the rewards and relaxation of fishkeeping because we have a passion for fish too. For over 50 years API has developed premium solutions with proven and effective results for your family and ours. API offers a range of testing kits, water conditioners, and nutritionally superior food, because we’re dedicated to making a better underwater world.
Protect marine fish and invertebrates from unsafe water conditions with API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT. Fish waste, uneaten food, plant refuse and other organic compounds can create harmful levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate as well as cause drastic fluctuations in pH. These unhealthy conditions can result in fish stress, gill and tissue damage and even death. The API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT accurately measures these four saltwater parameters that are key to keeping your aquarium healthy. It includes six bottles of liquid test reagent, four glass test tubes with snap-tight caps, a holding tray and a step-by-step instruction booklet with information on how to correct unsafe water conditions. Simply fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of water, add the appropriate test drops and compare results with the color chart. Then follow the recommendations to modify conditions if action is needed. With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. API Aquarium Treatment Supplies are designed to work in conjunction with each other to provide best results to control algae, promote healthy bacterial growth and help control and cure fish diseases and conditions such as ich and fin rot. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. With API, you can spend more time admiring your fish, and less time scrubbing your tank. Make sure to use all products as directed in order to ensure the best results.

I decided to buy this kit so I can do tests every two days, as I read that it is more accurate and inexpensive than using strips. Overall, I am very happy with it. Every test I do takes just a few drops. The manufacturer claims 800+ tests, but be careful that is the total number (adding all the different tests together). If you look at just one type of test, like nitrate, the one that requires the most drops, you will be able to do 50-60 tests (as another reviewer has calculated). Most of the tests are very easy to do, with the exception of nitrate, that requires shaking the bottle for 30 seconds and the water sample for 1 minute, and it is somehow tiring. I found running all the tests took me around 10 minutes. I have taken a video so you can get an idea of the "effort involved".
Overall, I am very happy with this kit. Over the last few days I have seen the ammonia climbing, then nitrite and now nitrate, so I can perfectly understand what is going on in my tank!
I actually made a video comparing the freshwater and saltwater test kits to show the differences.

However, the Nitrate test is a bit of a joke.Read more
