Amazing for $60.
We received the speaker in a timely manner and when I unpacked it I was impressed with it's build quality and appearance. This is a beautiful speaker. It was slightly larger then I anticipated but it's size is not overwhelming. It charged properly and holds a charge well. When you turn the speaker on it makes a surprising sound that I found pretty cool. Kind of like a jet flying by.
Unfortunately my Wife had issues with the volume at work as it is pretty loud even on it's lowest setting so She swapped it with my old Bose SoundLink which can play very quietly. I was excited to get to test this thing out for a bit. It pairs very well and I had no problems at all...and here is where the 3 star rating comes into play.
The sound...ooof! The sound is awkward at best. The bass is adequate, even smooth but not overwhelming, but this speaker is wayyyy too bright on the high end! Two tweeters is definitely overkill. This coupled with a noticeable lack of midrange makes for some ear fatiguing. I had to do some serious eq work to make it even a little enjoyable. I feel like one tweeter and a small midrange driver would have been a better design. So I listened to a few different types of music and came to the conclusion that it is alright for classical or acoustic music. Strings do sound pretty good on it. Jazz is good and blues or even funk is manageable. But rock music is just awful.
So if you like your music bright then by all means go for it. It is truly a beautiful speaker for sure. It just isn't for my spoiled ears.
As for the speaker itself, after testing quite a few devices, I've heard better, I've heard more versatile, but not from anything under $100, and possibly not from anything under $200. So the value is rock-solid. This speaker isn't without it's quirks, which I'll point out, but the main takeaway is that there's nothing I've heard yet that I'd recommend instead at around $50.
Now, the main thing I wrestled with when evaluating this speaker, is that there's an overboost on the mid-to-low end that drove me a little crazy, because I like my speakers to reproduce sound pretty flat, unless there's a configurable EQ where I can tweak to my preferences. This speaker's levels can't be adjusted manually, so some music will sound great with the extra "oomph," while some with a lot of activity in the midrange will come through sounding more muffled than on other speakers, because the back-end of that range is getting too much push. An easy way to get a feel for this is to listen to podcasts/audiobooks, etc., which are mostly voices. This speaker gives people's voice an unnatural baritone or "rumbling" feel that isn't realistic, because the woofer is just pushing those tones harder than it should.
You can try plugging the bass port with a cotton ball (or something similar) to tone down the low-end emphasis. I had mixed results with this; it changed the sound a bit, but is more a matter of preference than anything. It didn't fix the overall imbalance completely. Aside from the overeager woofer, though, I do think the multiple drivers help reproduce a wider range of sound than many competing speakers. Overall sound reproduction was solid, and could manage a broad dynamic range even at loud volumes without over-driving a single cone (or multiple smallish ones, as is common in portable BT designs.)
At the end of the day, I liked the A320 as much or better than most of its competition in its price range. It's not perfect, but small speakers involve so many trade-offs that few ever are. It's certainly the best performance-for-price option I've listened to so far. (Just make sure you pair it to an appropriate charger, and you should be in good shape!)
