I've had to stop them from sticking their fingers in the blades, which they didn't get cut from. I've warned them all to be careful with each and they put it back in it's packaging to store. The packaging works well for storage.
The cable isn't super long, but it's definitely enough for it to be on a classroom desk and bend toward the students who report that it's "just enough" power. It also doesn't zap their battery on their chromebook.
Win for this teacher!
1. i've used it on my switch
2. i use it with my imuto battery storage
3. i have a usb -> plug that i use next to my bed
Soundless. I love to use it on the desk with an external battery, low power consumption
I find the lack of a switch something you get used to and it means less things to break and less expense. It can be bent a lot to help redirect the flow so a 90 degree bend is no problem. The blades are made of hard plastic but don't really hurt when you brush up against them.
The only negative I found was with not with the fan but with the battery pack I was using because one of them was a lipstick style battery and I wanted to rest it on my chest and because it was round it wouldn't stay in position. I have a larger playing deck style which kept the fan blowing on my face nicely. Just something to think about if you are using this outside and want to have hands-free operation.
It’s plus is that it is super quiet. It makes almost no noise at all. But that’s mostly because I can exhale with more force than this fan has. I may put a video up showing how much power this has. But it’s minimal, and I’m puzzled at the reviews saying this is adequate or moves air just fine. It barely move my hair when I put it directly in front of my face.
In case you think I might have gotten a dud, I actually bought two of them and neither one accomplished much. If it’s spinning at 1700 rpm as the description says, It would only be because of how small it is, not because it has much power. Probably not worth the effort to return then because of the minimal cost, so I’ll keep them and figure something out for them I guess. Disappointed.
It's pretty quiet, there's just a low hum that's really impossible to avoid with any fan. The fan blades are plastic and surprisingly thick compared to what I expected. Honestly I could probably put this in my backpack and take it with me wherever I went without having to worry about breaking it.
One big thing I wish this had is an on/off switch. I didn't think to check before ordering it so it's not worth giving a lower rating for. It would be nice if the stem was longer, the length kind of limits how much you can bend it before the fan blades will hit the stem. It's long enough for what I need but another inch or so would be nice. Also because it's kind of short it would be nice to have the on/off switch so that you can adjust the fan while it's off but it's not a big deal.
Overall a great little fan and works great for cooling my SP4.
Two things to be aware of (but that, for me, don't diminish the 5-star rating):
- This works best for a laptop if your USB input is near the front of your computer. Mine is, but my husband's (who I bought it primarily for) isn't. I get a nice solid breeze, his is a bit weaker because it's further away.
- There's no on/off switch (which I'm sure keeps the cost down), but it does mean that adjusting it the first time is a bit of a pain - you have to unplug it to stop the fan, hope you get the right angle right, and then try again. Minor, but something to be aware of.

I have to sleep with one of those big oscillating fans on 3 to sleep comfortably and my girlfriend hates it. She hates having to sleep in my bedroom because I want my beautiful fan blasting cool air on my face all night long.
She did not appreciate my driving over to her house and bringing my lovely massive fan with me every time and I decided that I would compromise! I had read about these USB fans. I saw one of them in a major stationary chain and thought "oooooh, I don't want it to be encaged in a little box where I can't angle it... I WANT MASSIVE FREEDOM!"
THIS FAN IS MASSIVE FREEDOM. Though the length of the neck might not seem much, it is perfectly adequate to get the giant angle which you need. As I lie here on my front on the couch, this majestic creation is aimed directly at my face at a beautiful jaunty angle. I am as cool as a cucumber. I have repeatedly tried putting my fingers in the way of it to slow it down and it hasn't seen any signs of breaking or stopping.
I haven't seen any signs of it draining any major battery power from my 2011 Macbook Pro either. It just hangs out, being a portable, convenient, beautiful, gentle breeze which is as quiet as a ghost's whisper.
EDIT: I discovered that I can plug this into a one of those external battery power banks that are all the crazy lately and it works all night long. It now sits on the window sill at my girlfriend's beside her bed where it blasts elegantly over my slumbering head. It's the best.
Hardly any power consumption on the laptops, didn't affect the battery life at all really that I could tell. I'm sure it does, obviously. But it seems to draw very little power indeed.
The fan is definitely sturdy and well made, the bendy part is nice and strong and doesn't just fall over after 5 minutes.
They make hardly any noise at all. Quite remarkable actually. Certainly no louder than the laptop's internal gubbins anyway.
They just simply aren't powerful enough. I could feel a slight breeze but that's all. Nowhere near strong enough to actually cool you down.
So there you go. Quite how this has received so many positive reviews is beyond me, frankly. At first I thought maybe I had a faulty one but since I bought two and they are both equally weak, I'm left with no choice other than to say these aren't fit for purpose.
Lesson learned. I'm going to buy a side table and a proper desk fan instead.
Your traditional travel fan sounds like a swarm of angry wasps and skids around the table like an ant. They also tend to have the effectiveness of a drunk daddy long legs trying to blow over a lorry. Not so here. It's perfectly quiet enough to sleep with, has very little vibration, and although it doesn't deliver a hurricane, it does provide a good steady breeze that you can feel from at least 4ft away.
The goose neck is great for directing it in exactly where you need it - up, down, diagonally, whatever. I had it connected to a USB power bank on a shelf above the bed and could easily bend it around the edge of the shelf and direct it down on to me.
The design is robust. The blades are solid and have a good balanced weight and the motor and rotation is very smooth. The goose neck is the only downside. It is stiff and solid, which is good, but it does stick out a good way from the fan making the whole thing quite long and difficult to pack. It'd be better if you could wrap or coil the neck around the fan in some way so it was more compact. I also feel that the neck is going to be the weakest part, so pack it carefully. My only other (very minor) gripe is that there is no switch to turn it off - you just have to unplug it. A simple on/off switch on the back of the motor, or even better some kind of variable speed controller on the USB plug would really help.
For some people, having it USB powered without it's own battery might be a problem, but for me I appreciated that I could plug it in to my power bank and not have to worry about buying batteries etc. The other advantage is that you can use different sizes of power bank and it'll run for longer, or plug it into a laptop or USB wall plug and it'll run indefinitely. I used a 5200mAh power bank and it ran pretty much the whole night - at least 6 hrs. In fact I woke up at 4am and had to turn it off because I was cold!
Overall I LOVE this fan. It is soooo much better than any travel fan I've ever seen or used before. It is robust, versatile and very quiet. All that for £8!! My girlfriend loved it so much she stole it and I had to buy a second one!
Pair it with a good quality USB power bank (such as https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00P8SY7HQ) and it'll make trips to warmer climates much more pleasant all round.
