The original Tube MP made pro-caliber tube preamping available to ordinary musicians and home studios. The MP Studio goes a step further by adding a VU meter for better level control and ART's OPL (Output Protection Limiter), which controls and maintains the output peak signal to protect hard-disk recording systems and soundcards. The VU meter reflects the impact of the OPL circuitry when it is activated, which allows more effective fine tuning of the audio signal. It is a valuable tool for recording in project and home studios and can also function as a DI box with impedance matching and preamplification for line-level sources. Includes a 3-year warranty.

The VU meter is useless as you have to be knocking the walls down for the needle to move even after exhaustive input and out put adjustments with the controls and buttons.
Be careful with the input and output instrument jacks. They will break easily. I know!
But like I said, the unit works OK and is worth the money.
As a preamp for a distorted guitar signal, it may work alright, but the noise the Art TubeMP generates makes it completely unusable for any type of clean recording situation.
There are times when the phrase "you get what you pay for" really rings true, and this is it. If you are in a position where you even need a preamp, do yourself a favor and invest a little more into a piece of equipment that is vital to getting a good sound out of your mics and instruments.
I have since returned the device and gotten a refund.
And I was shipped the wrong preamp, but they sent me the correct one right away and told me to keep the other one. Both shipped really quickly and now I have 2 for the price of 1, so I'm pretty happy with my purchase.
Also, it's curious that it uses a 9V AC (as in AC not DC) power supply. Be sure you recognize this fact so you don't try to use some other power supply; the regular 9VDC plug will fit it. With my halloween props, I already had plans for routing 9VDC to several things, so I'm glad I read the booklet for this thing and noticed the 9VAC supply. This point probably won't matter to most people.
Anywho, good stuff.
The sound is clean and strong and allows me to completely cut out the much noisier preamps on my Alesis iMultiMix 8USB. The two outputs (one XLR, one 1/4") are very useful, especially if you want to route the second signal to an effects box or a sidechain input. I use it as the source for an equalizer/compressor chain to de-ess my voice work.
I'm so impressed with the clean output from this thing that I have to wonder what went wrong for the people who give this little guy bad reviews. Maybe it's a QC thing, or maybe I just happened to get a really good replacement tube, a Tube Amp Doctor 12AX7 / ECC83 STR Premium Selected Vacuum Tube.
This is easily the most well spent $30 for ANY piece of equipment in my entire sound equipment set up. It's a complete no brainer, every musician and recording or sound engineer must have one of these on hand. You will find yourself using it a lot, and will wonder how you ever got along without it before. At this price, you can get a few and be ready for anything!

Maybe have the solder points checked,a bit crackly and noisy, even after changing out the pre-amp tube.
