I own over 50 sets of colored pencils from no name dollar store sets to professional brands such as Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran d'ache Pablo and Holbein. This set of Arteza Expert pencils resembled Holbein pencils to me, in appearance of the pencils and most aspects of performance. They are waxier than the Holbein pencils. They glide across the paper effortlessly and incredibly smoothly. There is no scratchiness at all even with a pinpoint sharp tip. The pigment laydown is excellent. I really love the colors in this set and they really add unique colors to my collection, with the exception of the black not being as strongly black as I expect from higher quality pencils. It is more of a dark gray to me, than a truer black tone. These are waxier pencils, so wax bloom may be a potential issue in time, but I do not know since I have only had them a short time. I like the tin the pencils come in as it's heavier than many other brands and I like the hinged lid over two piece tins. For the price point, these pencils are amazing quality and a new favorite in my collection. I've already ordered an additional set. I highly recommend this set!!

I have, over time, gone through several sets of the "72" pack. I would wear them down to little cubbies, a n.v d order another box. I would always end up supplementing the Arteza pencils with a handful of o err mc iou lsd from other brands. As much as I have loved Arteza pencils, the pallet was just too small, until now! The pallet of pencils in this NEW 120 PACK IS AMAZING!

The moment this new box of pencils "hit the net" I put them in my cart. In the past, it was darned near impossible to find a wax based pencil with a large enough pallet at a reasonable price . This month (December 2019) two wax based pencil brands answered my wish. Arteza and another brand with 150 pencils based upon Pantone colors. I can't stop jumping up and down with joy!

As I said, earlier, Arteza colored pencils have always been one of my favorites but sorely lacking with a rather small pallet I received my pencils about 2 days ago. They (Arteza) did a magnificent job choosing colors and shades to expand to a pallet of 120 pencils. I couldn't be happier. I think that my prismas will be getting a well earned rest for quite a while now. As a matter of fact, they will probably gathering dust from now on, until I find a reason or excuse to bring them out again

If you have not tried the professional line of Artezas pencils, you need to take a look at them long and hard.Yes, you can try out a small pack of pencils before buying the big kahuna set. But I will just about guarantee that you will be coming back for more. I almost always advise students to purchase the largest you can afford. You will not be disappointed!

I will post pictures of the old pallet of 72 pencils, and one of the new 120 pencils. Its amazing to look at the differences between the 2 sets (Please excuse my messy swatch charts. I make them to use, not look pretty).

February 2021/; UPDATE- I spent over a week working on a very special project. At the end, I learned that Arteza pencils have a defect that the company is aware of.

Let me explain; after finishing my picture; I was very pleased with it, I decided to spray it with a fixative to prevent the pencil from smearing. Understand that these are a wax based pencil and are not water soluble. When spraying the fixative on my picture, all the colors ran! I contacted Arteza and they are very aware of the defect. They supposedly fixed the formula, but no one can tell which boxes have the new formula and the old. They are all mixed together. So in essence, they can't even replace your pencils and be positive that they are sending you either formula. Its the luck of the draw! I had seen several videos regarding this, and didn't believe it until it happened to me.

These are supposed to be a professional grade, "expert", of pencils, and they charge likewise. In my opinion, these pencils are only good for kids or the trash. I won't be spending my money on Arteza again!

I live for colored pencils with vibrant colors! These are it!! Beautiful colors that blend surprisingly well! I would highly recommend to anyone who loves to color or sketch. I'm no professional artist, but I enjoy coloring as a hobby and these pencils have easily became a favorite! I have tons of colored pencils, including prismscolor and the colors of these pencils are extremely nice!

Each pencil has the color written on the barrel. I haven't had any issues with sharpening or breaking. I am truly happy with this purchase!

Five stars across the board for these pencils! Not only are the colors beautiful and well pigmented, the cores are very durable and thick. I decided to check these out to find a secondary pencil that would work well with Prismacolors but hold a point. These pencils well exceeded my expectations. Plus they have a very nice weight to them and feel great in your hand. I absolutely love how large the color names are printed on the pencil with the lightfast rating. These pencils look very classy and like a much higher end product than the price would suggest. I’m a very happy customer and will be buying the 72 set soon. The attached picture is a blend of Artezas and prismacolor, the Arteza is used everywhere on this coloring except for her skin.

Bought these pencils instead of Faber castell Polychromos 120, as I did not want to pay £140 for a set of coloured pencils, but wanted more colours than my 72 set of that brand. As you can see from the photo, the colours are very vibrant, they layer and blend beautifully like polychromos and have a smooth finish to the colouring. They exceeded expectations as I thought with them being less than half the price of polychromos there would be some sort of compromise on the product quality. They sharpen fine and don’t wear down too quickly as I found with Prismacolor premier pencils. I have owned expensive pencil sets and these rival them all. The fact that these pencils are not available to buy individually does not bother me as I would buy another set again in the future.
The tin is a nice size and the pencils feel good quality with gold foiled numbering, lightfast rating and colour name on the barrel.
To top it off there’s also a ‘unicorn purple’ included in the metallics, which just tops it off! 🦄

I am a beginner artist and colourist. I bought the Arteza 72 set because I found myself wearing down my Prismacolor Premier pencils very quickly. They are expensive and I wanted to preserve them for longer.

I researched thoroughly a coloured pencil set that was comparable to the Prisma's and came to the conclusion that this would be my best fit. I don't regret purchasing these at all!

The tin is a bit flimsy and one clasp has already broken after only 2 weeks of use. The inside plastic is also flimsy but it still holds the pencils well.

The actual quality of the pencils are great. The pigmentation exceeded my expectations (as seen in my swatch photo above). The pencils are soft core but not as soft as Prisma's. This is good as the tip of the pencil stays sharper for longer. I do however find that these pencils don't take as many layers as the soft and waxy Prisma's do. I would recommend a toothy paper for these if you want to build more layers.

There is a sound selection of colours, ranging from brights, earthy tones, warm/cool tones, etc. I find I can either find the exact colour I want, or I can layer them and create my own colours.

Overall, I highly recommend these pencils if you want a budget friendly pencil set. I just finally want to add that there is not currently an option for open stock. Hopefully Arteza will introduce this in the future so we can purchase individual pencils.
