Rating: [5 of 5] Reviewed by: JON on 12/11/2008 Pros: If you want to produce flies the size of small birds, that cast well, and more importantly fish well, then this is the DVD for you. Articulated Streamers is a very well produced, easy to follow, DVD. The footage is clear, well focused, and the tying instructions concise. Cons: Kelly Galloup really assumes the viewer has knowledge of his flies. He describes one simply by saying, this is just an articulated Zoo Cougar . That s fine if you know what a basic Zoo Cougar is. Other Thoughts: This is an advanced DVD is on how to tie articulated streamers, not how to tie flies. The author assumes the viewer has a basic knowledge tying. Perhaps some viewers might be put off by the lack of discussions of thread selection, hook selection, material selection, tools etc. I do not see that as a con at all. There are tons of good DVDs for beginners. So many DVDs spend way to much valuable time going over basics. Kelly Galloup gets right to the heart of the matter. Articulated flies are all about the articulation and a fair amount of time is spent on this connection. The explanation of how to make these this joints is outstanding and well demonstrated. It s always interesting seeing how other tiers handle materials. Kelly Galloup s explanation of how he spins the huge hanks of deer hair he uses on some patterns was outstanding. --Fly Fishing Website

Great instructional March 1, 2009 Picked up this video after seeing Mr. Galloup give a presentation in person. It's tough to find a good flyfishing instructional video, but this one is excellent. Quite technical and full of information on both technique and finding fish. Streamer Fishing For Trophy Trout May 8, 2005 2 out of 5 found this review helpful This DVD is very informative. If you want the how to of Trophy Trout Streamer Fishing, then this is for you. --Fly Fishing Website

Fishing with large streamers has quickly become the number one technique to catch big trout thanks to Kelly Galloup. Galloup s innovative system of fishing with large articulated streamers has lead a demand for these streamers. Knowing that trout anglers would enjoy the process of building and fishing their own articulated streamers, Galloup explains in this DVD how to tied 4 of the most popular tandem hook flies including the T&A Rainbow, Zoo Cougar, Crawl Daddy, and Sex Dungeon. In the DVD Articulated Streamers by Fly Fish TV, Galloup, owner of the Slide Inn, fishing guide, and expert fly angler, demonstrates how to tie 4 popular big trout catching articulated or commonly referred to as tandem hook flies. T&A Rainbow- Is the second generation of the T&A. It s an easy to tie a tandem hook fly, said Galloup. Articulated Zoo Cougar- Fat Head as we call it in the catalogs, the Articulated Zoo Cougar is like 2 Zoo Cougars in one. It has a larger profile and a wobbling action like few other flies. This one fly has produced more big fish over 20-inches on the Madison River than any other articulated fly, said Galloup. Crawl Daddy- I seem to be articulating every fly so I came up with the Crawl Daddy with a tandem hook design. It has a unique action with the crawls always trying to float upwards and moving it back and forth giving it a life-like crawfish action, said Galloup Sex Dungeon- It s a big fly with a lot going on with a big fat head, rubber legs, and swimmy tail...that s the Dungeon! said Galloup. These 4 articulated steamers were designed to mimic a joint Rapala lure and have an S-curve movement. Overall these flies are not real difficult to build and when tied correctly will have a life-like appearance. After watching and building their own articulated streamers, fly anglers not only get the enjoyment of assembling a tandem hook fly, but catch big trout on them thanks to Galloup s Articulated Streamers DVD. --reviewed by Brad Wiegmann

I listened to a talk by Kelly and he got me extremely interested in Streamer fishing. I ordered this DVD to start tying some of his patterns. He does a great job and I was able to follow along with him and tie my own flies.

Kelly Gallup is the go to guy when it comes to Rocky Mountain Trophy Brown Trout fishing. If your coming anywhere out here in the Greater Yellowstone Area to fly fish, you owe it to yourself to get and study the book by Kelly and Bob Linneman, the primer Michigan guide, and also Kelly's DVD's on streamer fishing, finding "soft" water, particularly during runoff, which this year has extended into August. Also, you need to look at Kelly's streamer "system", how to tie and use streamers, in colors and shapes when working a trout river or stream, particularly when there is no dry fly hatch in progress. This stuff is practical, thorough, makes sense, and works. I use his methods on the Snake and Wind rivers and in the lakes of the Wind River Mountains. It really works if you want that big fish. If you're familiar with Kelly Galloup, you'll know that he has popularized streamer fishing for lunker fish with his book (and vidoes) on Modern Streamers for Trophy Trout. (A great read and if you haven't seen that video...it's a must!) His videos are always entertaining and insightful. I think I own them all now. This one discusses tying large articulated patterns with several tying demo's of his unique trophy catching patterns and the reasons behind their construction. From this you'll be gain an understanding of tying big steamer flies and you'll be able to create your own trophy catching fly patterns.
What I enjoy the most, is his presentations are never boring....unlike a lot of other fly fishing and fly tying videos out there. There's always something to learn from not only each video, but each viewing of the video. I've been at this game for a long time. Kelly's videos are my most viewed, from my extensive library.
