I researched shoes for weeks discovering most of what I knew about running shoes was completely wrong. For example, did you know flat-footed people might find it more comfortable to have shoes with less of a drop between the heal and toe than high arch people? Sorry, I digress.
I decided on this pair of ASICS for two reasons. One, I owned a pair of ASICS once before and had good luck with the sizing and my foot-size differences. Two, the price was cheap (it has since gone up in cost, but I paid around $39 for them on Amazon) because, darn it, nobody wanted bright orange.
I like the bright orange. I run early in the morning before the sun comes up and I feel safer with these amazingly bright and reflective shoes on. I have heard all sorts of comments (mostly from my wife) about how gaudy they are. And I love it. I revel in it even!
Aside from the color, the shoe has held up over 250 miles thus far (yes, it is true, I am a runner now. I run about 20 miles a week and get cranky if it looks like I am going to miss my chance to pound the pavement). I would like to thank ASICS for turning me into a virtual Forest Gump out there (I just keep runnin, and runnin....)
They fit great, they are durable, they are orange, and they dry out quickly (which I learned after running through a sprinkler in the dark and stepping into a puddle that was ankle deep during the first mile of a 5k). I take good care of them (which I understand is another secret of having a good running shoe) and they have taken good care of me.
I hope when I go to buy them again, I can find them at a nice, cheap price.
I'm a vegan and prefer not to wear shoes made from animal. This was the primary draw to Asics for me. Everyone seemed to have nothing but good things to say about them so I decided to grab the NEO 33 style because it was cheap (again in case I don't stick with it) and seemed to have several comfort options. I tried on a pair of Nimbus at a local sporting goods store and while they were very comfortable, I didn't want to pay a hundred bucks for them.
A concern I had was the number of reviews for the Asics shoes in general regarding sizing. I didn't want to take too many days off running and if I received the pair that didn't fit, I would've been very frustrated to have to send them back. Fortunately the NEO33 fit exactly like the Nimbus. I wear a size 13 and have an average arch and width. I had to make adjustments to the laces to get the width right around my mid-foot, but that's what the laces are for. Once I made the adjustments they fit perfectly. The toe box has plenty of room and the shoe is snug all around without feeling constrictive. Overall, I would say the sizing on these is right on the money.
The comfort level is phenomenal. Two runs down and my knee pain is gone. The heel might as well be a pillow while there's greater support in the front for forward propulsion. I really can't see much of a difference between these and the Nimbus. Granted I never ran in the Nimbus and others have stated that the Nimbus will hold up for long distances where these may not. Regardless these are the most comfortable shoes I've had the pleasure of owning. They're very well ventilated as well and I can feel the cool air rush over my feet even through my socks.
I just can't say enough good things about these shoes. I haven't run into any negative aspects of the shoe, but I will update if I do.
