ASICS: History and Heritage
After the second world war, ASICS founder Kihachiro Onitsuka observed children wandering the streets barefoot, and decided to help the youth of his country. By promoting the values of Sport, and providing them with high quality athletic shoes to help them perform their best, he believed he could help the children of Japan build a better future with the philosophy of Anima Sana In Corpore Sano: “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body.” In 1949, Onitsuka Co. was born, and soon after, the first ever footwear was released from the fledgling brand: a basketball shoe called the “Tiger.” In the years that followed, Onitsuka Co. (re-named “ASICS” in 1977) designed a myriad of scientifically sound, sport-specific shoes for athletes. Mr. Onitsuka’s emphasis on the spirit of Sport and a focus on the needs of the athlete continue today with ASICS, Onitsuka Tiger, And ASICS Tiger shoes, clothing, and accessories. Our dedication to never stop bettering our best reflects our desire to help you, the athlete, to always Better Your Best.
A low-profile cross-trainer designed with lifting, rope climbs, running, and cleans in mind.
In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

On another note, the Gel-Fortius are an excellent shoe for the heavy weight-lifter. A lifter doing heavy squats, deadlifts, etc., needs to wear a shoe with very little cushioning in the soles in order to "feel" the lifts beginning from the soles of their feet, and to provide a stable platform to support the conclusion of the lift. As the lifter progresses in the weight lifted, the more important the type of shoe support becomes. I lift weights and was surprised to find what an excellent weight-lifting shoe the Gel-Fortius is. When coming from the bottom of a deep squat I can feel the weight pressing and spreading first across my entire sole, just as it should, before graduating up through my legs. The same for deadlifts. In the past, when doing such exercises with heavy weights, and heavily padded athletic shoes, I could not "feel" the soles of my feel, and my feet, as a platform base for my lift, was shakier, and not as stable.
One last note about the Asics Gel-Fortius. Although a great every day shoe, and good athletic shoe, they cannot satisfy every shoe need. For example, there are situations where I would want to wear an athletic shoe with a little more padding on the sole, or more structure and padding around the body. If I were going to walk a long distance I would want to wear a good walking shoe. Likewise, there are times when I may have to stand on my feet for long periods of time, like at sporting events, etc. At such events I would probably want to wear a shoe with more padding and support to cushion my feet.
But, for every day wear the Asics Gel-Fortius is my shoe of choice.
I finally found these after looking at cross training and cross-fit sneaks and they certainly make a difference. They are a little hard to get used to, if you've only ever used running shoes or trainers. The whole shoe is fairly rigid. The first time I put them on and walked around the house I couldn't imagine them being comfortable......ever. Totally recommend trying them after using them for a month. Much reduced the daily ache in my knees.
are what you should get and alternate on the trail IF you want to feel the ground well and propel yourself forward with the full leverage of a properly developed natural stride that uses a balanced mid-foot landing every time, distributing impact evenly throughout the body and dispersing it with the least damage to your feet and legs and toes as they get stronger and stronger.
