In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Other than that no complaints.
Primary purchase is for martial arts & kickboxing...and the shoe offers a very comfortable good & snug fit, but my concern is the large toe rubs right against the mesh fabric (just below the rubber tip) and I can tell its a matter of time until the fabric tears - during rigorous kicking.
Therefore I'm torn between returning for a size 14, OR may elect to order the SnapDown shoe as it shows a different (sturdier style) material; of which the toe will be rubbing against.
I bought and have liked the Asics Matflex 4 wrestling shoes twice in 2 years at size 11. Those Matflex 4's fit well pretty much immediately, and each wore out the soles and laces without really "breaking in" any other way over hundreds of hours of hard use in martial arts (other than a slight sewing defect on my second pair that didn't actually affect structure).
Given this experience, the incredible tightness of the Matflex 5 size 11 I tried doesn't seem like something I can possibly fix by breaking it in. I'm returning my pair, and must warn you that these are particularly narrow and small-running shoes, even if you think you have your Asics Wrestling shoe size pegged. Looking from the outside, the size and length are pretty similar, but they just have less space inside
Back to the Matflex 4 for me. 3rd year, 3rd pair.
