In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Cons: Small fit. Tight toe box, which cramps the feet and takes awhile to break in. Top material takes a long time to break in and feel like a 29.99 shoe from big 5. Very aggressive heal compared to previous models. Tread pattern seems to allow for more slippage on dirt that the 18's.
Pros: Lighter than previous models. Good cushions. Normal DS Trainer feel.
Unknowns: Wear on sole (I only have about 25 miles and they look fine). Break in comfort (still haven't completely broken in)
After getting these, I wish I would have skipped this model and gone with the 19's.
The first time i got fitted for shoes, i ran on a treadmill in probably about 10-15 different shoes before the store clerk brought out the DS Trainer 19 and they instantly felt so much better than all the others, they brought out 2-3 more after that but i was sure that the ds trainers were the one. At the time because of money i opted for the previous model of 18's which still had an awesome fit. Theyve been my tried and true shoes for several hundred miles now. I went to another running shoe store now that i moved to get fitted again, tried on a whole bunch of different shoes but nothing felt as good, i settled on a pair anyways and bought it. After a week i had to return it. Nothing could fill the void of my previous running shoes other than another pair of ds trainers so i got these on amazon.
They arrived within the 2 days via amazon prime. Great step in comfort. At first i worried about the overlays as when i began running in them, i could feel them somewhat folding at the flex points and pressing slightly against my feet. After a few miles on my first run it went away, just part of the break-in process i guess. No hotspots or friction points for me. Even with flat feet, running feels good and smooth.
As for durability, if you dont see a negative edit to this post in a month or two, then im pretty happy with it.
I have run several marathons and average about 30 miles per week. I get about 300 miles per shoè but have experienced little deterioration up to 450 or 500 miles. Simply one great shoe!!!
The provide good support and feel lightweight.
