ASICS: History and Heritage
After the second world war, ASICS founder Kihachiro Onitsuka observed children wandering the streets barefoot, and decided to help the youth of his country. By promoting the values of Sport, and providing them with high quality athletic shoes to help them perform their best, he believed he could help the children of Japan build a better future with the philosophy of Anima Sana In Corpore Sano: “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body.” In 1949, Onitsuka Co. was born, and soon after, the first ever footwear was released from the fledgling brand: a basketball shoe called the “Tiger.” In the years that followed, Onitsuka Co. (re-named “ASICS” in 1977) designed a myriad of scientifically sound, sport-specific shoes for athletes. Mr. Onitsuka’s emphasis on the spirit of Sport and a focus on the needs of the athlete continue today with ASICS, Onitsuka Tiger, And ASICS Tiger shoes, clothing, and accessories. Our dedication to never stop bettering our best reflects our desire to help you, the athlete, to always Better Your Best.
Throwing caution to the wind, the third generation of the ASICS GT-2000 is ready to crank out the miles, regardless of distance..
In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Top customer reviews
I need a stability shoe and was a die hard of the 2100 series. When Asics decided to shake things up I went along for the ride. The 2000 1 were horrible so I went with the 2170's. Tried and used the 2000 2 but they were painful and lacking cushioning. I decided to use the Kayano instead and the 19s were the best ever. Moved onto the 20's and they were horrible. At one point I couldn't feel my toes.
I then tried the 21s and they were so narrow and short even in a wide width and I have always been a standard width. Tried the nimbus next and they were great in the toe box, still very short in length but caused numbness in the balls of my feet. The 1000 3 were short and really stiff. The cumulus were really short like my foot measures a 6 1/2 and an 8 was to short. The gel exalt slipped in the heel and were very narrow.
So here I am with the 2000 3. I always wear a 7 standard width in street shoes and up until this shake up was a 7 1/2 standard width in all Asics shoes. I decided to go to a running store for help out of sheer frustration. On a foot measurer I am a 6 1/2 standard width but was fitted in an 8 Wide in these. The cushioning is awesome in these and the stability great. The heel slips ever so slightly but after every other shoe I tried I decided to keep these. I really hope Asics gets it together soon because color selection and in stock options suck in wide.
So these shoes are lightweight, colorful, and obviously well-constructed. My wife normally uses a narrow shoe but I decided to try the normal width instead. It's a good thing that I did. Although this shoe is supposed to fit exactly the same as the GT-2000 2 model it replaces, she found that the toe box was a bit narrower and that the design caused her toes to point upwards slightly. So it's a slightly different fit but she believes that they will relax a bit with continued wear. Of course she's comparing a brand new shoe to a pair that had become as comfortable as old loafers. Not exactly apples to apples.
After wearing them around the house for a few hours she realized that the toe box is too small and the fit is not the same as her prior Asics GT 2000 2. I had to arrange for a return to the vendor and pay shipping. Not happy about that since the fit is advertised as identical. Oh well, win some, lose some.
