12 month update;
Because this is a supremely under-stressed HTPC application, I am not running overclocked. I've had zero issues with my system. It runs extremely cool and quiet. It is very stable. I'm very happy with it.

This seems to be a well built, high quality motherboard, with many features. I purchased it on ebay for $128 with free shipping.

I am able to overclock my i5-6600k CPU to 4400 MHz simply by bumping the multiplier up to 44, while leaving the CPU Load Line Calibration at it's lowest level. This keeps the voltage and heat low. I was able to bring the clock up to 4600 MHz by bumping the voltage to a fixed 1.35, but this pulls more power and generates more heat and fan noise than I like. 4700 was too much with my limited knowledge, and my reluctance to go past 1.35v, I was able to push the integrated GPU to 1400 as well. I imagine I could get more out of it if I knew more about the intricacies of overclocking, but it shows what this board is capable of with just a modicum of knowledge and air cooling.

My setup utilizes an Intel i5-6600k CPU, an EVGA GTX750 Ti SC, 2x4gb sticks of Crucial 2133 DDR4, a Crucial MX200 2.5" SSD, a 3TB WD Green HDD, a LG WH16NS40 Blu-ray Disc Rewriter, an EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 PSU, Case ventilation is provided by a pair of Noctua NF-F12 PWM Cooling Fans on intake duty, and a Noctua NF-P12 PWM fan on exhaust duty. The case is a Cooler Master Silencio 352 mATX. Everything fits perfectly.

This was my first build in over 10 years. I built it to be a HTPC, and it is performing admirably. The board connectors worked out ok for my build. I do wish the battery was in a more open place, as my CPU cooler and video card block access to it.

I had some issues with ASRock boards in the past and was a bit cautious about this purchase, but for the features the price point was awesome (on sale for $99). I have been extremely happy with this board - the layout is good, setup was easy, BIOS updates were super easy as soon as it was connected, etc. I did have some trouble with memory speed and timing using G. Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 (2x8GB modules) and it appears ASRock has a very specific compatibility list, but with some forum searching and minor voltage tweaks it's all set now. I've had the overclock settings and memory settings change until I updated to the latest BIOS, but otherwise no complaints. Extremely happy with the MicroATX decision, as well, and have actually had some better temperatures in a smaller case so I would absolutely recommend this MicroATX board if form factor is a big part of the decision. For the price, I would easily buy this again over similar Gigabyte G1 and even ASUS Maximus Gene boards that cost more.

For reference, my build was:
Silverstone Temjin TJ08B-E mATX Case
EVGA SuperNOVA P2 850W platinum PSU
ASRock Z170M Extreme4 mATX motherboard
Intel Core i7-6700K
EVGA GTX 1070 Founders Edition
2x 8GB G. Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 (F4-3200C16-8GVK)
2x Intel 730 Series 240GB SSD
1x Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB HDD

I bought this mainly for generic desktop use with plans to do some light gaming down the line. I run Linux exclusively and so was a bit hesitant before buying this board with some reviewers mentioning (not just on Amazon) that this board, and ASRock in general, does not play nice with Linux. People complained that certain versions of the BIOS (<2.0?) produce errors that spam the logs and use a full core at all times. Answers varied between disabling logs, updating the BIOS and using a more recent kernel.

My motherboard shipped with BIOS version 1.6 and it worked on my Fedora install with kernel 4.7.3 without any log or CPU use issues.

The hardware itself seems to be great and I have had no problems with the board yet. I'll update my review should anything change.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone considering using this board with Linux.

This motherboard is great. The UEFI is super easy to use. Go into advanced for overclock... Pulled down predetermined overclocks. I could choose from 4.2, 4.4 and 4.6 and in Red Text (meaning unstable) 4.8 Ghz. Its been over 5 weeks since I had this board. Running at 4.6 (i5-6600K) NO PROBLEM! . I cranked it up to 4.8 and it also Runs fine. with my M.2 Drive, there really isn't any reason to run at 4.8. Pulled down to 4.6. Great board all around. Love mATX.

Bought this motherboard to build a VR/entertainment machine with Windows 10. It worked out great, Windows installed with no issues off a USB stick and I only needed to find a network driver on the ASRock site to get everything up and running. I'm docking a point for a few minor issues. The M.2 mount is between the PCIe slots where it's inaccessible and has no cooling air flow if a video card is installed in the first slot (as recommended). I wanted to use the M.2 for a super fast boot drive so I mounted my GTX 1070 in the third slot - it seems fine but I think it only runs at x8. Also, many people will want more fan headers. My ASUS GPU had two headers for GPU-controlled case fans so it worked out in the end. Finally, a packaging issue: there is no padding or spacer between the motherboard and the side of the retail box. The first one I got (from another seller), the box was damaged and the IO panel had left an imprint in the cardboard so I had to return...
