5GHZ WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY
Ditch the cables with confidence. ASTRO’s wireless technology provides robust, low-latency performance by operating at a higher frequency. This keeps you in perfect sync with your gameplay and eliminates interference from other wireless devices, allowing you to focus on winning. No chat cable required on any console.
DOLBY HEADPHONE 7.1 SURROUND
Whether it’s stereo or multi-channel surround sound, the A50 delivers accurate audio no matter the source. Spatial placement and directivity are crucial in competitive play and the A50 was engineered with this in mind. The end result is a lifelike, cinematic gaming experience that gives you the ability to pinpoint various objects and sounds in a three-dimensional space.
ASTRO BASE STATION
No one likes a complicated setup. The A50 headset automatically pairs with the ASTRO Base Station for frustration-free connectivity, while magnetic charging allows for effortless docking when the headset is not in use. The Base Station’s front display indicates battery life and charging status to ensure you never get stuck with a dead headset. The rear 3.5mm input/output supports additional audio sources, giving you the ability to take phone calls, overlay background music, or output your game audio and chat to external capturing devices.
PC COMPATIBILITY AND SUPPORT
The A50 offers multi-platform compatibility, making it simple to switch between console and PC/Mac modes. PC gamers can access the ASTRO Command Center software via USB and adjust various audio settings and levels accordingly. PC gamers can also balance game sound and voice chat when using separate chat applications such as Discord or Skype.
ASTRO COMMAND CENTER SOFTWARE
The innovative ASTRO Command Center software offers enhanced flexibility and control beyond default mix settings. The A50 has three new EQ presets (ASTRO, Pro, and Studio), which can also be accessed via the headset for fast and easy selection. Users can also independently adjust input and output levels, including Sidetone and Noise Gate. Profiles can then be updated, saved, and shared. The software also provides automatic notification of product firmware updates when they become available.
PRECISION MICROPHONE WITH FLIP
ASTRO Gaming was conceived in the pits of eSports tournaments, so we know the importance of clean voice chat. The flexible, durable microphone offered on the A50 provides clear, low noise communication and is optimized for PlayStation 4 and PC/Mac. And with the ASTRO Command Center software, gamers can fully adjust microphone levels and other settings depending on their environment and preferences.
COMFORT & DURABILITY
ASTRO headsets were designed for marathon gaming sessions. The ear cushions feature cloth for maximum comfort, backed with synthetic leather for the best acoustic performance. Wear glasses? Not an issue. The A50 features lightweight, yet rugged construction with premium materials for a pressure-free fit that won’t overheat your head.
MOD KIT READY
The A50 headset already provides great comfort and sound out-of-the-box, but the optional A50 Mod Kit* (sold separately) gives users the ability to upgrade to synthetic leather noise-cancelling ear cushions and a padded headband. The cushions provide increased noise cancellation and limit sound leakage for quiet environments.
*Not compatible with other headsets.

1. The "hear yourself" mic feature needs to be optionally turned off / on.
2. The audio turns off when the headphones are placed on the station or set down - this needs to be configurable.
3. The auxiliary port doesn't work at all without clicks and buzzing - this is a *major* deal for me. I'm not able to plug my Nintendo Switch into the back of the station and use my awesome headphones with my devices reliably.
4. Software suite is pretty shoddy for $300 headphones.
5. The audio quality is fantastic
6. The build quality is solid - all 3 gens have lasted multiple years for me. This one feels better than previous ones!
7. Great mic!
For this new generation they have basically doubled the battery life as well as having it auto off when placed down, meaning battery life is no longer a issue as long as your willing to charge it every other day or so. They charge decently quick, and you can always plug in to continue playing if need be. For the new generation the base now has a light indicator telling you your current battery life, so no need on guessing rather you have 20% or 90% battery life. With two ways of charging; the magnetic base stand which works well, or the old plug in USB style there really is no excuse not to charge it when you are not using it.
So why buy it? Well... it is honestly the most comfortable headset I have ever used. I have owned over the last +/-20 years of gaming; Razer, TurtleBeach, Creative, Corsair, Logitek, Icemat Audio (now known as Siberia/Steelseries) and many others... The only headset that came close was the Icemat Audio in comfort, many of these other headsets were somewhat comfortable but after a few hours started bothering me, not so with the A50. This is why we went this direction for my wife, as her last Logitek was one of the most uncomfortable headsets we have owned, maybe only second to her Razer Banshee headset in the feeling of having your head in a vice. I can see people with narrow heads potentially having problems as their is not much "clamping force" but anyone with a average to above average size head should have no issues with comfort, the ear cups are pretty standard size, not small or large. It is also very breathable, I have never had "sweat" from wearing these, that I have had with say leather/vinyl cups.
I wear a 7 1/4 to 7 1/2 hat and my wife wears a 6.5 and its just as comfortable to both us of, she also wears glasses and finds they accommodate glasses well. So again, why buy this headset? Because for myself at my age, I do not need the best audio... the best mic, the longest battery... what I do need is a super comfortable, wireless, surround sound headset, that does everything I need while performing well. This headset delivers. You can have the best audio in the world but if it means that in a hour my ears are hurting or I am uncomfortable, then what is the point?
- Amazing comfort (I would dare say the best in the "Gaming" category)
- A jack of all trades headset
- Base stand has came a long ways and the new style is very nice
- Two ways to charge (magnetic base or by USB)
- Its not for audiophiles. If you are a audiophile you will be unhappy with the sound, go back and buy your "stereo" headset.
- Software, I place it here because while its amazing, I am not sure the average user can utilize it to its fullest.
- Sound bleed... Loud volume does indeed bleed out, they sell a kit to silence it, but yea a consideration for some.
- I have always thought the need for the mic to be basically vertical to be in the "off" mode is silly and takes a while to get used to flipping it all the way up for it to be off...
Overall the A50 has just gotten better over the years and while the audio quality may no longer be the best in the segment anymore, it still delivers dam good audio, and ill sacrifice having the best audio by a few points for comfort. I will put it this way; my older A50 suffers from the volume wheel adjustment problem(they have re-designed this now so no longer a issue), and even then I have continued to use it because its that good, that instead of buying a different brand I have stuck with them because they are that good, and its a minor annoyance compared to my enjoyment of the headset.
I had the 1st GEN of these headsets for a long time. I loved the 1st gen! After buying these, though they SOUND AMAZING, there's a few things that bother me, about these pair.
Charging station is great and charges quickly.
Color scheme is cool
Great sound and does a really good job immuring you in the game
Headset breaths nicely, no sweaty ears.
Microphone bends and stays in the position you set it to, unlike the first gen.
microphone on headset is a little wobbly
Microphone quality SUCKS.
doesn't come with a wired charging cable.. (Really astro?)
battery life sucks (7 hours playing a game, while I twitch stream)
uses micro USB, which I feel is a mistake.
Would I recommend this headset? No.
