I bought this to cover an off-brand video camera. Camera's auto-focus didn't work and after a lot of email and text, the camera's maker told us flat-out that they were not going to fix it. Asurion covered it, but tried to only cover the cost of the camera, not the sales tax. That's 10% here in WA and Asurion was clearly trying to get a little extra in their pockets. For standard, name brand equipment, read the article on pcmag.com. Don't buy protection plans. But for weird off brand stuff, it might be a good idea. Also noticed that Asurion doubled the price of the plan I bought 15 months ago.

Had a power outage and my Nas would not turn back on afterwards. Used the online clam procedure, which was nice. They issued me a pre paid label to mail my device to them. They received the device and started the repair process fairly quickly. However they could not repair the device and said they where sending me a check. The check was for a lower amount then what it would be to replace the device and that they would not send the device back to me. I wanted to try and recover some of the data on the os, even offered to pay for shipping and they refused. I also wanted to pull the Ram sticks out of the device as they where aftermarket and very expensive. But again they refused. So not a good experience if you upgrade anything inside the device. Overall the experience was very poor. Did get some money to put towards a replacement but without the OS files and having to buy better ram for a replacement device it's a bad experience

I generally don't buy any sort of insurance for 95% of my products that I buy. But for any product in this price range, you can definitely sleep better knowing you have a little extra coverage for your pricey product. I haven't had a need to make a claim, but I'm happy to know its there.
