The Asus is a very attractive blue color with a few silver accents. All plastic construction, but it feels sturdy, while being really lightweight. No flex anywhere on my model, nothing creaking as I type. Only one little green LED the tells you the machine is on, nice and simple.
The display is glossy, bright and has a reasonable viewing angle, not a high end display but comfortable enough.
The keyboard and trackpad are very good. The keys have a nice touch, tactile feel, and rebound. I feel like I can type full speed on this keyboard and do it for hours. The trackpad is the perfect size, out of the way when typing, while being quite responsive to touch. Solid performance on input!
I ran a few benchmarks, such as Google Octane, and the machine comes in at about 7200 on Google's test. Not bad. Actual browsing does exhibit some lags on graphic intensive pages, but overall the browsing experience is fluid and enjoyable. Videos play well, resolution is fair, and the sound is really quite good for such a small unit. Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, all ran quickly with no stuttering or other issues.
The charger is tiny, which is good. It looks like a micro-USB but it isn't, size wise the charger and plug are comparable to a phone charger.
I haven't had the machine long enough to gauge battery life, but several hours of operation and the charge is still 90+%, so I expect the life to be good (13 hours is the spec).
WiFi performance seems excellent. It connected to my D-Link router quickly, and has full bars of strength well past my other WiFi devices, and delivered stellar results on broadband speed tests.
I really can't find any faults with this machine. It is a solid, attractive, nice performing unit at a great price. For an everyday carry device it is light (the unit is 2 pounds 3 ounces on my scale), easy to use, and has a battery that should last longer than I can most days.
Update May 13th:
Battery Life under general browsing with a few short videos tossed on my machine is 12 hours. Charge time is under 90 minutes from nearly empty to full. Really good.
Also attached a pix of the adapter. It is very light and compact. The charger is 6 feet long (it seems a bit short to me). The metal conductors do not fold in.
Still really happy with this Chromebook!
The build quality is excellent, the keyboard and trackpad are quite good, and the battery life is unmatched. The Toshiba 2 has the best screen, but this new Asus is thinner and lighter and a generally sexier machine. The processor is the same quad-core ARM based Rockchip model that the new $149 Chromebooks use -- it's not going to outperform the Intel chips, but it gets the job done and sips power.
My only complaint so far concerns the material on the outside of the laptop. I dig the dark blue color and the surface appearance is slick, but my (clean) fingertips have left marks on the cover.
I fully expect this model to be one the most popular Chromebooks yet.
Took this Chromebook and a laptop on week long business trip to see if I could truly just use the Chromebook.
The results? Since I work almost exclusively in Google drive for the last few years the switch from laptop to Chrome was relatively easy.
Absolutely enjoy the keyboard, nice feel and responsive. Since the Chromebooks have an altered keyboard here's a tip:
Press ctrl + alt + ? to pull up the keyboard map as there are many useful hotkeys
Battery life was outstanding at around 10hrs with a 10% charge left.
The wifi switched flawlessly between hotspots, this was a big plus as 2 tablets and one phone had trouble doing that.
Overall this Chromebook worked very well for a weeklong business trip, I only used the laptop once for a Skype call but could have used the phone for that.
I'll give this an A+ for value and an A for performance. If you do not need to use a native app that runs exclusively in Microsoft or Apple than a Chromebook may be the best choice.

This little gem arrived in easy to open packaging and at first glance I am ihmpressed at finish and construction which I found to be very good. The setup went flawlessly, done in less then 10 minutes. Being a heavy user of Google Drive this Chromebook will fit the bill for my mobile computing needs and with the outstanding battery life I expect this to be my goto mobile machine.
After a day out on the road, some observations:
It quickly switched from the home router to the my phone hotspot flawlessly, then back again. A+
Wifi appears to be very fast A+
Screen is easy to read for it's size. B
Keyboard is a joy to use, nice tactile touch. A
Trackpad is solid and well placed A+
The unit feels solid and well built, not flimsy and cheap. A
4 hrs of use and 91% battery left. Outstanding! A++
Sound is very good. B
Overall I am impressed with this Chromebook and believe it will be used heavily in my business. I agree with the above reviewer that this Chromebook may become a best seller as it is a great value at this price and the battery life would be hard to beat.
I have 2 trips coming up soon and will update this review afterwards.
