The specs speak for themselves. I'm not a big gamer, but I do 3D modeling and rendering as a hobby, and this thing handles rendering almost as well as my desktop computer. The 12GB of RAM really helps to keep everything running smoothly, no matter how many programs I have open or Chrome tabs running simultaneously.
I did do a personal upgrade from the standard operating system hard drive to a 128GB solid state drive (SSD). The speed difference is astounding! If you're not comfortable with changing out hard drives and re-installing Windows and drivers, then just make the upgrade here at the point of purchase; otherwise, it's not difficult. Either way, you'll be VERY glad you made the leap to SSD!
The mouse pad is a multitouch pad. There is no scroll section off to the side like in my HP laptops. Scrolling is achieved by dragging two fingers simultaneously down the touchpad. Zooming in and out is achieved just how it is done on iPhones and Androids, by squeezing fingers together on the pad or by spreading them out. Three fingers dragged down is "Show Desktop", etc. There aren't a lot of multitouch commands, but the ones that are there are pretty handy.
I only have two complaints so far:
1) the speakers are inordinately quiet. My HP could get pretty loud. This thing? Not so much. It's probably OK for most people, but I have three small kids and my wife is always running some kitchen appliance, so I need my laptop to be able to overcome a lot of background noise. As is, this one's capabilities are barely adequate.
2) a minor complaint, but still a tad annoying--I can't find where to change the abilities of some of the function keys. For example, "fn+Enter" (on the keypad) brings up the calculator. I want to change this to bring up not the Microsoft basic calculator, but GraphCalc 4.0.1 that I use far more often. So far, I have been unable to find this functionality.
Overall this is a fantastic piece of equipment. It's solid, feels rugged (though I hope to never test that), and is very powerful. If I wasn't addicted to my dual-monitor beast of a desktop computer, this laptop could certainly function as a good desktop replacement.
At first look, this is improved over the G51, my other heavy usage laptop. The screen is a little bigger and screen looks better. I work with photo editing, not games. The AC adapter weighs 2 pounds and is the size of a brick. Of course the G75 is an inch wider and 3 inches deeper than the G51.
The speed and performance is what I was expecting and it is nice. One feature I really like is the backlit keyboard. If it had not been present I would have selected a different brand or model.
I gave it 4 out of 5 due to presentaion information which I felt was to brief and incomplete. For instance, a carry case was included in the unit I recieved and it was not expected. On the computer itself, a 5 rating is earned in my opinion.
At this point my disappointment is two ~750gb HDDs are installed. Not a single 1.5tb HDD. I will have to remove one to install a SSD. I feel like I paid an extra $150 for that second HDD. My gripe at this point as I feel the specs were misleading about the HDD space. After researching the specs, this model is described as a two HDD drive model in other places.
The Blue-Ray is a player only for BD not a writer. DVD support seems complete.
More later as I see how it holds up.

Graphics excellent, setup was no problem at all, using the seperate partitions as seperate [four] harddrives. Have tested it with some prety demanding games, examples MMOs [GW1,GW2, SEToR,TERA] offliners such as Morrowind,Oblivion, Fallout and the new Dishonoured, all at high settings. TERA is a high quality graphics and detailed modelled game and this laptop brings out those details worthy of five stars.
The only drawback I had in getting this machine delivered was not the fault of ASUS, who were very helpful, but the fault of UPS [renamed by me as the Useless Parcels Service] who failed to deliver it on eight occasions, when they said they would, despite me staying at home waiting for it.
It would have been unfair to mark down the star rating given as faults were with UPS and not ASUS, would recommend this machine to anyone who wants a serious gaming laptop
I was excited about this purchase as I had not had a new PC for 10 years! I bought this Gaming Laptop as I need both the high specs and the mobility of The Asus G75VW.
It is a fantastic Gaming Laptop and the only downside is that in one of my games Max Payne 3 there are gaming mouse control issues within the game but this is not a hardware but I feel a software issue with the game itself! I would recommend this Laptop as it is value for money and the graphics are truelly amazing whilst both playing games and watching videos and TV! Even looking at the screen when using different Wallpapers is breathtaking! I am well pleased with this purchase!
Minor issues have been getting used to Windows 8, I installed the Classic Shell interface to get back to the Windows 7 layout and ditch the Metro interface which is practically useless unless using a touch screen.
I also had a minor problem as the keyboard is US layout and it took a while to find how to switch this option on so that the keys give their correct characters - Asus should consider putting an insert in their documentation to explain this.
Otherwise it is great.
