Everything I needed for my new build.
What this board DOES NOT have compared to the more expensive z68 ASUS boards.
- NO PCI 3.0
- NO USB 3.0 Headers (has 2 on board USB 3.0 in back)
- NO eSATA connectors on back
- less SATA 6Gb connectors

This board shines in the "bang for your buck" category. 3 types of on board video outputs is always a plus if you plan on using the integrated gpu on a Intel ix series cpu or if you want out of the box graphics and overclocking abilities and add a discreet GPU at a later date if you are on a budget for your build (that's what I did.

I like ASUS motherboards, and used the big brother to this one (the P8Z68V-Pro) in my main computer. I got this one for what will be almost $100 less than that which is a great deal given that this board will do just as well if you don't want multiple graphics cards.

Before mentioning specific pros/cons of this board (esp as compared to other ASUS boards using this chipset) I should say that in general I like working with ASUS boards. I find them to be good quality, their UEFI BIOS is a delight, and their board-control software fot Windows works well. Now to specifics about this board:

PROS:

1) There are six SATA ports (2 SATA III and 4 SATA II) and I really like how they are arranged: They are near the lower right corner (looking at the board installed in a tower case) and you are looking straight at them, as opposed to being on the edge of the board pointing to the front of the case). Also, there is enough separation between them so that it's easy to connect and disconnect SATA plugs.

2) If you still want PCI (vs PCIE) slots, you will find a few on this case. This will appeal less and less but there are several specialty cards (like high-end audiophile sound cards) that are still only available for PCI slots.

3) This card offers almost as much as the more expensive ASUS Z68 boards for much less money.

CONS:

1) There are two USB 3.0 ports on the back panel but no internal header on the board. Most new cases come with at least one USB 3.0 port on the front that expect to be connected to a USB 3.0 header on the motherboard so you won't be able to use that USB port.

2) If you don't want PCI slots, then this may not be the case for you, as there are relatively few PCIE slots.

Ordered for overseas delivery and received the package in excellent condition - no DOA's on this and on SSD's, video card, memory, and a few other components/accessories.

After installing everything the system is a go at first boot using the hard drive from my old system. 'Didn't have to reinstall Win7 Pro from my old Gigabyte C2D setup, just the drivers. System is running smoothly for a week now with no signs of irregularities. My setup:
i3 2120 - from Amazon
Asus P8Z68-V LX - from Amazon
Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 - from Amazon
Sandisk 120GB SATA2 - from Amazon
1TB Seagate HDD 7200 - from my old system
500 PSU - from my old system
Thermaltake V3 - from local shop

This is an excellent setup for my twins' gaming/graphics needs! Amazon's prices are excellent and it would have cost me twice for the same components had I bought them from a local shop.

I'm now looking forward to upgrading my laptop, building an ivy bridge-based HTPC and graphics workstation, all with parts from Amazon.

It works fine out of the box. completely plug n play but it has no Ide ports for old 2.5 and 3.5 drives. only Sata 3gb/s and 6gb/s but I love it anyway. It took all of 30 seconds to overclock my 2600k t0 4.4 ghz from 3.4 ghz.

Got this last week, Amazon took its own good time to deliver without 'Prime' tho! , delivery took almost 2 weeks from order, very poor after the total order being over $1100. Matched with I5 2500K cpu, Gygabyte GTX570 OC Graphics card, 8gb Corsair Vengeance (Blue) RAM ( the mobo did not like this RAM at first, it would not boot up at all, had to start the system with only one bank RAM ( initially showing at 1333 mgz), then very easily overclocked the system using the Asus AI suite (supplied on disk), this then overclocked the CPU to 4.3ghz and set the RAM to the correct settings of 1600mhz, adding the 2nd RAM chip after this the mobo had no problem picking it up at this point ) Raidmax RX-730SS 730 Watt modular hybrid PSU ( blue led on this unit looks great btw :) ), Western Digital 320mb Sata6 hard drive (dissapointing 5.9 windows score on this unit, although it loaded Win7 64 bit in less than an hour), Coolermaster Elite 430 case ( This item, was disappointing due to being a little cramped for the mobo, especially if you want to utilize more LED case fans as I did, and also the RAM clips are very difficult to get to after installing the RAM, as the end clips are obstructed by the case ), Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus cpu cooler ( again this cooler although being excellent restricts using more than 2 banks of tall RAM such as the Vengeance ) The whole system is running beautifully now, giving over 29000 points on 3D Mark 06, cpu running at a cool 30 degrees C. Also runs World of Warcraft (on a quiet morning in Stormwind ) at well over 200 FPS. Have got the cpu higher, pretty easy using the supplied AI Suite up to over 4.4 ghz , ran fine, cool and stable but decided to go back to 4.3 ghz for safety.Read more ›
