Update September 10th: The uptime of my router is now closing in on 40 days straight of up time. Aside from a point when all of our neighborhood's internet went out (neighbors have let us use their internet, and haven't changed their password since...), there was no time this router stopped working.
Putting multiple (6+) computers through this plus online gaming on consoles simultaneously this past month, I have not seen any performance degradation. For the older laptop, nothing worse than with my previous router.
Still fairly satisfied with this purchase. At the price it is at now ($25), this is the router to get.
----------
It has been roughly a week since I first received this. Unlike my 8+ year old router, I haven't had to unplug or restart the router since then.
As advertised, setup is simple (though I find that to be true for all routers I've used, this one is even harder to mess up). The user interface is fairly straightforward, has plenty of options, and a couple nifty tools.
Me being a paranoid type of person, I feel much happier letting friends and cousins onto a temporary network instead of my main network. The extra bit of security is nice, and I can say this is one of the nicer features I've seen in a router.
The range of the wireless also does not disappoint. I live in a moderately sized 2 story home. Compared to my old router, I feel I get slightly more mileage out of my router than before. With my previous router, I would get no signal from the other corner of my house. With this, while the connection quality is very low (according to windows), it does actually see it and does work from that location.
For the actual performance of the router, it is also a large improvement over my old one. With a certain amount of activity and downloading, I noticed my old router would die for a few seconds trying to process all the things happening. Not the case with this router; I've had downloads, games, videos, and video streams on 6 computers at once and (aside from the strain on my available bandwidth) the router handled it all without a drop in performance.
On that note, there is a function on this router to prioritize what type of application gets more bandwidth priority. I have not tried this feature out yet, but after my aforementioned tests with my friends and myself, I don't feel it necessary. It does sound pretty nice if you take the time to make it work though.
All in all, for the price I paid ($30 excluding taxes), I would highly recommend this router for any household.
It was quite simple to set up too. I just plugged it in, plugged in my ethernet wires, powered it on and opened a browser. It pretty much did everything on it's own after that. The only thing I had to do was set my main password and the password for WiFi (and change the SSID if you want). I was able to get online at that point, it has other options you can tweak if you wish.
It's only been hooked up for about 6-7 hours but so far it's had no problems. I have 2 PCs, a blu-ray player, a Wii and the DirecTV Genie box hooked up to it right now. The Wii is in the same room, maybe 3-4 feet away and the DirecTV Genie is about 10 feet above it on the next floor.
August 15 2013 update. So far I haven't had any issues with the router. I stream Netflix over WiFi on the Wii with no interruptions and streaming on the wired blu-ray player is the same, the blu-ray streams in HD too. The DirecTV Genie streams VoD and Youtube perfectly fine over WiFi as well. Haven't had any resets or signal drops either.
March 27 2014 update. This router is still kicking, still hasn't needed reset and has 2 laptops connected to it now as well as all the other stuff. We've had both laptops on at the same time and never noticed a speed drop or anything, we only have 12mb dsl but both laptops still run the same as if only one of them was connected. I tried one of the more expensive Asus routers after this one was working so well and had to return it after about a week, it started dropping my connections and got to the point it dropped it 5 times in 1 hour. I'll be sticking with this one until it dies.
While the Asus RT-N10P N150 isn't officially supported in Tomato, it does use a Broadcom BCM5356 SoC which is supported. I installed Tomato 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-112 K26 Max by Shibby and it worked. I don't know how well the RT-N10P performs with stock Asus firmware but so far, it's been rock stable with Tomato. The ethernet ports are reversed but other than that, it's working perfectly with Tomato.
The RT-N10P appears to have better wireless range and throughput compared to the WRT54GL. In addition, it has 8MB flash and 32MB RAM versus just 4MB and 16MB respectively on the older WRT54GL so it's possible to run Tomato builds with more features on the RT-N10P. Definitely a nice upgrade over the WRT54GL. If the RT-N12 was available, I would get that given it's only slightly more expensive. However, the RT-N10P is a pretty decent router for its price and it's the least expensive router I know of (brand new) that's capable of running Tomato.
