I'm a college student, and I wanted a less-expensive laptop to take on campus to use for classes, than my main one at home. Last year I used a Chromebook, and although it did the job, it was limited in what all could be done on it. That being said, this year, I wanted a cheap laptop that I wouldn't miss terribly if it were stolen, as it could be easily replaced.
I've been through my fair share of Windows PCs, and at this price point, this is by far one of the best deals around. I've heard/seen people who have purchased it even cheaper "offline" at Best Buy and other retailers, so definitely take a look in-store if that's an option for you. Elsewise, at this price, it's truly a bargain.
Windows 8 is... annoying, however, Classic Shell can be installed (Google it) to return your interface to one that's familiar. Once I did that, I was perfectly fine navigating.
Quick for web browsing, and I'm even able to play a few games that don't require graphics intensive demands (MineCraft, Ragnarok Online, etc) on lower settings.
The addition of the optical drive makes this great for my needs (music student, and we go through a LOT of CDs in our listenings), the storage space is great, and I can even use Netflix/watch Youtube videos without issue.
Nice, bright, crisp display- I actually prefer it to my "main" laptop I use at home for business purposes.
If you're expecting a back-lit keyboard, or instantaneous application openings, then look a few more hundreds of dollars. For an entry-level, student/college laptop, this is the one to buy.
Fairly lightweight and portable enough for my tastes
Reasonable price point.
Mousepad is a pain and with no discrete border between buttons and pad clicking on something can be an adventure.
One of my USB 3.0 ports has stopped working entirely about 6 months into owning the machine.
If you don't take fanatical care to wipe down your keyboard or put some kind of thin padding between keyboard and screen before you close the laptop you will have issues keeping your screen clean.
You will also have to get a webcam if you want to skype, it has the peeping hole, but no camera
I had to get a usb 3.0 hub since this laptop only have 1 usb 2.0 and 1 usb 3.0 . It works great out of the box, very responsive with XBMC (Now named KODI). It lags a little loading heavy web pages or medium sized spreadsheets, but if you need more power, don't get a Celeron, spend some more money on a core i3 or an i5.
The overall speed is slightly slower that my other laptop, the Core i3 380u (first gen Core i3)
I normally like to tweak my laptops with SSD, like the 840 EVO that's getting cheaper every day or expand the RAM. But I had to disassemble completely to access them, there's no service entry to do a quick change of parts, but still possible.
People here complain that this keyboard should have a back-light, webcam or Bluetooth, but at this price point, you get:
* Optical Drive
* RJ45 + WiFi
* 4GB RAM
This is an excellent laptop for media purposes, light use or child pc. If you want it for any more, get a basic Core i3 laptop not the same price range, but a more complete one.
And it's great pricing from Amazon id only buy from Amazon for computer needs.Or direct from factory.I give this computer aaaaaaaa++++++++++ i had a Toshiba before this computer it locked up on me and it had so many things wrong with it id never tell any one about that company to no one.
