In terms of hardware this is exactly what I needed. No frills, just something to replace my faulty onboard audio.
So far so good. I didn't have any issues installing it in Windows 10.
This is what I did BEFORE installing the card in my PC:
1. Log into Windows and uninstall Sound Card drivers from Device Manager.
2. Turn off PC and go into the BIOS, disable integrated sound. (Save and exit BIOS)
3. Turn off PC and install the card.
4. Log into Windows, download newest drivers from ASUS and install them. (I didn't touch the CD that comes with it).
5. Reboot, that's it.
As a previous reviewer mentioned, it seems that there's a USB chip in it, actually, if I hold the mouse pointer on the speakers icon from the taskbar, it says "Speakers (USB)". Now, I don't know for a fact if that slows down the PCIe functionality to a USB speed. If so, that's really bad, misleading and wrong. No idea, but it seems to work fine, anyway, that's not an excuse if they're not supposed to use a USB chip on a PCIe device!
Sound:
I have a small Fifine 4 channel stereo mixer where I connect a bunch of audio equipment (including the line out from the card), all that is connected to my old but good powered Altec Lansing speakers. Turned the volume all the way up from the computer, mixer and speakers and couldn't hear any static noises, hiss, hums, nothing! Very impressed! Actually I put my ears to the speakers and couldn't hear a thing!! Be careful if you try that, a sound notification from Windows can give you a very unpleasant surprise, also, that will not be healthy for your audio equipment.
The sound seems pretty flat (which is a very good thing). If I need some EQ, I'll do it myself! BTW, the EQ, FX, ambience or whatever you want to call them, are all turned off by default, another very good thing.
I tested it with a few YouTube videos and a couple of audio files in Audacity, haven't tested a mic, or any advanced audio stuff. It seems to do what is supposed to, haven't noticed any lag. I'm not into surround sound so that's that. The front panel port works as expected. I'll update when I do some other tests.
As per Windows Sound settings, the SPDIF out only does 2 stereo channels up to 24bit 192KHz. So it will NOT output digital 5.1 surround, you will have to use the analog audio connections for that. Anyway, found this in Wikipedia: "S/PDIF can carry two channels of uncompressed PCM audio or compressed 5.1/7.1 surround sound (such as DTS audio codec)". So, I don't care if it doesn't output SPDIF 5.1 compressed sound, but, that's me.
User Interface (UI) seems fine to me, nice, simple, clean and straight forward.
Hope this helps!
At $40, the issue was resolved for less than the price of shipping and hassle of no pc for 2-4 weeks.
The card produces pretty good on my 2.1 system, and while I own good speakers, they're definitely not audiophile level performance. I can say that my speakers sounded better with the soundcard, than using the onboard realtek sound from my previous build. Bass was good, mid and high range were clearer without a tininess I used to deal with using the onboard.
Installation was about as easy as it could possibly get. I literally just plugged it in, turned on the PC and Windows knew immediately what was going on, I didn't even have to install the drivers I downloaded. I did a wipe/reinstall anyway, as the downloaded version was newer however I didn't notice any difference in capabilities. Prior to purchase, I had read several of the 2/3 star reviews and was braced for potential problems with Windows, but I personally didn't run into any of the issues mentioned. It *might* be because my board is a Asus board, but I can't say with any confidence.
Sadly, I did notice a drop in quality when I retrieved my 5.1 speakers from storage and wanted to see what they sound like. The 5.1 are pretty good quality, better than my 2.1, but I wanted less clutter on my desktop hence I went to 2.1. Anyway, the sound suffered a bit with the 5.1, while the bass was even better than before, the mid and high range were a less so. I was watching the Witcher series, and there is a lot of screeching in various scenes, it quickly proved too shrill and unpleasant through those speakers. When I ran some music through the 5.1, I noticed violins sounded very off and again, a bit shrill. Plugged the 2.1 back in and that wasn't the case.
All in all, for what I needed a soundcard for, and at this price, it's a solid 3. If this goes out on me, I won't feel cheated and I didn't have any aggravations installing it unlike others have. Lets hope my luck holds.

Stop leaving negative comments just because you have limited understanding, SPDIF passes through the sound signal the way it is, and it's up to your AV to figure it out and what to do with it, if its 5.1, 7.1, or whatever
This is not a converter, if you need such then install ffdshow with ac3 filter on your pc first and make it convert to proper signal before passing it through to your AV, or just use analog output
what is this world coming to...
also, it makes things sound better too! how much better depends on what you were using before but for the price you cant go wrong with the gaming boost alone, so even i minor sound improvement is all bonus. i recommend discrete sound cards and NICs to everyone who wants a cheap hardware boost to their gaming rig.
