Best Brake fluid for the money

As far as I know this was developed for high-end European sports cars that frequently see long term high speed runs on the autobahn, to not boil or make the brakes fade prematurely. From what I have read this fluid has been used in racing as well, and is a bargain for the quality. I have used it (and the previous ATE Super Blue) for 20+ years in several cars, from a Corvette, Pontiacs, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevy Tahoe and even a Mazda MX-6-GT, with great success. Never had any issues with it. Best value for the money in my opinion. Wet boiling point is 396 degrees, only a couple of very expensive fluids have a higher temperature wet boiling point. Dry boiling is a respectable 536. Highly recommended.

I replaced my daily drivers with this brake fluid. They were due for a brake fluid change as my brake fluid test showed it needed to be replaced. The brakes feel much better compared to when they were wet. I do not know how these handle compared to the oem fluid as this is an upgrade from oem or oem replacement fluids to me. I personally use Castrol racing brake fluid for my car that I bought onto the track. If you plan on changing out the fluid often just get this or any good value fluid and call it a day, you get 3x the amount compared to 1 bottle of Castrols.

Used the TYPE200 racing fluid for a brake demanding track (Streets of Willow Springs) for two days where ambient temp was around 95 degrees. Day 1 had five 20min sessions but realistically only three of these sessions were full on and day 2 had four 20min sessions full on. The fluid was great after the first day but did get soft after day 2. For the price, I could bleed it after every track day and still be better off than buying Motul RBF660 or something that is better. Unless you were racing racing, this is more than sufficient!

all right, this is going to be a bit convoluted, but I feel the public service is needed for people to avoid the same ordeal I had. I'd used ATE typ 200 in my older 2003 A4 and it was great. I didn't bother with it when I had my 2013 S4 because I was using Castrol synthetic Dot 4 that worked well and came in 12oz jars so i could add a little extra to my bleeder to make sure i totally flushed the old stuff. That doesn't seem to be available any more, so I went back to this one when I got my 2022 911 992.

That was a mistake. Now, on the reservoir cap, my 911 says just "dot 4" (and the manual is useless, just tells you to go to a dealer). However, while I had not kept up to date with the latest stuff on brake fluids, i had heard something about "low viscosity" dot 4 fluid, and THAT is what is actually needed on my car, and really, most modern cars with ABS and traction control systems. Why?

Viscosity is how thin it is, how easily it flows. Normal brake lines have a set diameter. However, when fluid goes through ABS modules, it flows through smaller holes and lines. So it needs to flow easier - with lower viscosity, especially at low temps. Otherwise, it could develop air bubbles as it struggles to flow through. Regular dot 4 has a -40 Celsius rating of max. <1500 mm2/s. DOT 4 class 6, aka, LV is half that at 750. I didn't do this research ahead of time. I bled my brakes with the ATE typ 200, and when i got in my car and pressed the brake pedal, it squeaked to high heaven. So now i need to rebleed them with LV fluid.

Having said this, if you are tracking a car, it probably doesn't matter because at upper temps, like what you see while tracking, the viscosity is pretty similar. But for regular driving, probably want to stick with LV fluids. ATE has an LV version, as does Pentosin. Bosch's regular dot 4 ESI6 meets the specs too, but it's not labeled as LV for some reason. Just read the specs. look for a viscosity rating of <750 mm2/s at -40 Celsius.

I rated this a 4 because it IS great dot 4 brake fluid. However, it seems to be the only one that causes that squeak with newer cars, while other dot 4s do not have the same number of complaints. and like i said, I didn't have that issue w/ my Castrol on the S4.

I put this in my 08 Mazda CX-9, which is somewhat well known for brake issues (see NHSTA investigations). Despite many flushes with econo DOT-3 fluid from the dealer, new master cyl, new brake lines, new abs module, and booster even, my pedal was still soft. I bled the brakes using this fluid (per the manual, not with a power bleeder) and noticed an amazing difference. (I'm not even sure if I got all the old fluid out). There is a much more "confident" feel to the pedal. It's a more direct, but assuring communication with the brakes than I've felt before on this car. Excellent stuff. Please don't listen to people who say the fluid will not change the pedal feel, and that it's just the new fluid. I had new fluid, just basic run-of-the-mill dot-3. This is a most excellent upgrade.

I'm actually still getting my head around accepting that my brakes feel as they should, and still fear pushing on the pedal and finding it to be mush. This stuff has saved my car.

Note I have not had a chance to feel any ABS action with it. That's somewhat more difficult to do on dry California roads.

PRO TIP: Put fluid in the collection container before bleeding, so the end of the tube is submerged. Also make sure there is an upward curve in the tube from the bleeder nipple, and then down into your container. These tips will help keep the bubbles from going back in.

(Always do what the manufacturer recommends, even if I don't).

Note I actually didn't purchase this stuff from Amazon. The company that sold the item from Amazon sent me a totally different fluid. Make sure you are getting the right thing. There's a lot of scammers hoping you wont send the item back or notice it's different, even here.

I'm running this fluid in a car that sees track duty at least once a week all summer long, sometimes twice a week. This is a great budget option before stepping up to a true race fluid like Motul RBF 600 or 660, because it has a very high dry boiling point, a good wet boiling point, and is much less expensive, at half the price of the race fluids. I have used regular off the shelf DOT 4 fluid, like Prestone for example, which works OK, but this stuff has higher boiling points and is the same price as the lower quality stuff.
This ATE Typ 200 also comes sealed in a metal bottle, and the shelf life in my case is excellent, with a use before date of 2026, meaning it hasn't been sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for years and sold as old stock. For the price, and for those of us who don't need to spend $60/L (RBF 600) or $75/L (RBF 660) on race brake fluid, this is a great way to go. It's also nice that it comes in 1L bottles instead of 500ml like the more expensive race fluid. I know WHY they sell it in that format, but the fact is, I generally bleed the whole system rather than just a couple of calipers, so having a bottle that is enough capacity for the whole system is nice.
