WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE!
There are immediate noticeable differences. First, the visibility of the Daytime Running Light is greatly increased. The body of the lamp looks much darker than the stock bucket, which makes the already bright LED arc stand out even more. Secondly, the field of view for the low beam is MUCH wider, and seems to throw noticeably farther down the road. Even with LED bulbs in the stock bucket, the field of view was never this good (since the stock bucket is made to reflect a standard halogen bulb). The high beam is similarly impressive, and puts light out well farther than the stock unit.
Install was easy; I followed the install tutorial on this page, and, apart from keeping the lock washers positioned while feeding in the mounting bolts, everything was a cinch.
My only concern is longevity of the unit. I’ll write an update after the season to speak to how well the light and individual LEDs are holding up.
So far: I’m very impressed. I should have made the switch far sooner.
**UPDATE**: I’ve been running the Atoplite for over a year now, and consider me convinced about the value of the unit. My biggest concern buying the light was in its longevity. Let me assure any potential buyers: this thing is TOUGH. About a month into owning it, I’d misjudged the depth of a puddle on some single-track in the woods (SERIOUSLY misjudged; what looked a wide but shallow rut in the trail ended up swamping me past my instrument cluster). The Atoplite unit was completely immersed, and even after I’d gotten my bike out, there was still moisture on the inside of the unit. I’ll spare you the details of what I tried to get all the fog out, but I put the light through hell, and it STILL functions like clockwork today. This has been a great upgrade.
One thing to note is that it is heavier than the stock assembly, though I've had no issues with it even with the stock rubber washers for holding it in position - though it does come with toothed washers that will dig into the plastic when tightened if the rubber washers don't work for you.

During the first rainy ride, the light got all foggy. We contacted the seller and they told us that it was normal. This is not a normal amount of fog, we waited for 2 weeks and the water didn't clear. We contacted the seller again and he said that they would change the product if we deleted the negative review, we did and they stopped answering us.
Now we have a defective product and didn't get any help.

These LED lamps are available from many different suppliers online, but all come from the same factory in China. The cost can vary quite a bit, so do your homework. The one I bought here on Amazon was about 2X the cheapest I found, however given current (Spring 2020) supply chain problems, 2 day deliver and a likely better experience if I need to return it - I went with Amazon. I also found sellers willing to sell for for quite a bit more than what I paid here. Given an OEM replacement is north of $600 (and will still have the cooling issue, not be as bright, etc.) this is a pretty good value. Value is the only ding here, and that's just a slight one. 5/5 for quality and brightness.
Construction: This unit is aluminum which replaces the plastic OEM unit. It appears very solid. I've not had any issues with the assembly vibrating out of position (use the lock washers that come with the assembly).

The second issue is more of a BMW issue. I would love to have this be a 'true' daytime running light, where we could switch through three stages of lighting. On daytime trails, I really don't need my headlight on in daylight... but, I can live with it.
