When the Audubon squirrel baffle is pole mounted, it creates a rounded wall that blocks squirrels, raccoons or chipmunks from climbing up to the feeder. The wrap-around design allows you to attach this add-on without disassembling your bird feeder or bird pole.

Update: Clearly my little squirrel is sharper than expected... I found him hanging under the baffle, eating the suet cake. This is mildly disappointing :(
I tried a couple of things to no avail, until I purchased this baffle and hung one baffle beneath the other. This had the effect of lengthening the distance the squirrels had to stretch to grab the feeder, effectively putting it out of reach. They let me know I had advanced my cause by chewing through the hanging line, dropping everything to the ground. I had the Audubon baffle beneath the other baffle, and they were suspended over a flagstone patio. I think it would have survived a drop to grassy ground, or it would have been ok if it were the top baffle. But the clear plastic is more brittle than the plastic of the opaque baffle, and it cracked badly on striking the stone (hence, one star off). I was able to epoxy it back together, and I used vinyl-coated picture hanging wire to put the feeder back up in the tree.
I had the pleasure of schquirreldenfreude yesterday watching my opponent grope for the out-of-reach feeder perch, then, defeated, attempt without success to climb back up the vinyl-coated wire. He had no choice but to drop to the ground below. Victory! For now. I pay them the respect of worthy adversaries. It's like the Korean War--no peace, only a truce.
I wanted this to attract birds as well as provide weather protection, so I sprayed the underside with Krylon Stained Glass Colored Paint. Several light coats, and it looked like it was made this way. Since it was not being used as a squirrel baffle, I sealed the dome to the hanger with a heavy bead of silicone RTV. This serves to stabilize the dome in winds, and keep the rain from dripping through onto the feeder. Since the hanger also serves as the mount for use as a pole baffle, I made a small disc-like cover to slip over the hanger hook to keep the rain from dripping down through this piece. I attached two pictures. One of the painted dome, and one showing the disc-cover for the hanger.
I have only been using this dome for 2-3 months. I usually wait much longer to see how a product is going to perform before writing a review. Guess I am pushing this one a bit in case there are other people looking for a similar solution. As is, I am extremely pleased with this product, and would highly recommend it. I will most likely order several more of these to put over my regular bird feeders as well to keep the rain out. I have had my fill of cleaning out moldy, soggy, growing seed whenever a good rain saturates the seed in the lower portion of my feeders.
