Great customer service solving hot/neutral reversal!

Coincidentally, I purchased this in the same order as a Sperry Outlet Tester. After testing my outlet (which is wired correctly), I plugged this Aukey Power Strip into the outlet, and plugged the Sperry Outlet Tester into the Aukey Power Strip. To my surprise, the tester indicated that the hot and neutral were reversed, indicating that the Aukey strip is miswired, which is a safety issue.

UPDATE:
Aukey delivered great customer service in dealing with this issue! They sent a replacement unit after I contacted them. When it had the same issue, they realized they had a manufacturing issue. They refunded my money, and about a week later, fixed the manufacturing process, and today I received a new correctly-wired unit directly from China.

It's not a bad idea to have an outlet tester to check your outlets. If you have an older one of the units with hot and neutral reversed, you shouldn't plug a lamp into it.

Original review: I bought two of these to put in my house to avoid wall adapters. They seem to charge well, but the AC outlets don't hold a plug. I tried about 5 or 6 different lamps in my room and all of them led to the plug falling out. There is some sort of "click" when inserting the plug. I tried to gently bend the prongs on the lamp both in and out to see if it would grab. That did nothing. Not only did the plugs fall out, but there was a very poor connection and the plug needed to be moved around to make contact to power the lamp. Both outlets on both strips have the same flaw. It is most likely a bad batch given the number of actual good reviews, but I don't have the patience to try again.

9/13 update:
Aukey contacted me and sent two replacements out right away. These two hold AC plugs. One was really tight at first, but it seems to work. The problem with the new set is that one of the two has the reversed hot and neutral issue. I'm upgrading my rating to two stars for customer service and one of 4 working. Aukey seems to have serious QC issues.

9/21 update: Aukey again sent out a replacement. While I applaud their customer service, I cannot in any way recommend this product. Number 5 unit again has hot and neutral reversed.

Without rapid charging, this device seems to be geared for bedside or an entry door table use with long duration charging of multiple devices. Coincidentally, these are also places you may want to have a lamp. With the reversing of polarity in 2 of 3 tested and two others failing to hold a plug, I believe these are unsafe and would strongly recommend to anyone to look elsewhere. I know I will not buy any more Aukey products. While they stand behind them, I cannot trust the safety given their quality control.

The appeal of this was that I could charge 4 USB devices and still have 2 plugs available while taking up only 1 outlet slot. I've had this for a few months now and have had no issues with charging any of my devices from this, even when charging 4 devices at the same time. Great when my phone, the wife's phone and tablet, and the kid's tablet all are in need of a charge at the same time. I dropped 2 stars because the outlet portion on mine doesn't work. I tried to plug a device into both outlets and got no power, but plugging my phone USB in worked. It isn't the end of the world because most USB plugs that allow for 4 devices take up a whole outlet on their own, and with this design I still can use the top plug. But having the additional 2 outlets would have been a great win.

EDIT 12/28/18: Customer Service read my review and emailed me regarding my device. I was unaware of the 24 month warranty and AUKEY is sending a replacement. Added 1 star for awesome Customer Service. I will update again once I get the replacement and test it :)

EDIT 01/10/19: I have received the replacement unit and it works perfect. Thank you AUKEY customer service for being awesome.

Test the AC outlets when you get it!

The only positive thing about the unit in my opinion is that the USB charging portion appears to be fine. The AC outlet part of it is... temperamental.

From what I can see, it looks like this has safety shutters on the AC outlets that are... temperamental at best. After a -lot- of cursing, and with a lot of force, I finally managed to get one outlet to accept a plug. No matter what I try on the other outlet though I can not get the safety shutter to open.

I would have returned it, but I didn't test it immediately after I received it. When I finally got around to testing it I was outside of the return window. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with it since the AC outlets, the main reason I bought it, are either extremely difficult to use (one outlet) or completely unusable (second outlet). It also appears to be completely glued closed, so opening it up to remove the useless safety shutters isn't an option.

If you do decide to try this make sure you immediately test it to confirm that you can actually plug stuff into it. And that it isn't miswired (the one outlet I could get in to was wired correctly). Or just avoid it altogether.

Unfortunately, I might have received a defective item. Initially, things seemed to work fine. The receptacles were very tight and hard to get plugs into, but once they were in, they worked fine. The problem I've been seeing is with the USB ports. I still haven't figured out when the issue occurs, but sometimes they will just not work. I will see a 'charging' symbol on my devices, but they aren't actually charging. It's not like I'm maxing out the output amperage or anything so I can't quite figure it out.

Revised 03/24/18: Customer service was quick to respond and follow up to my original review. Although I'm still unsatisfied with how tight the receptacles are, I have determined that the USB issue could be due to the cable I was using based on the feedback from the customer service email. I have to say customer service is very good.
