There is a gaming mode for those gamers out there as well. Easy to download and so far so good!
Pros: This software doesn't bog down your computer. For me, this is the most important. In my experience Norton and McAfee are resource hogs and have slowed down my computer quite a bit. With AVG I don't have the same issue. It does stop threats. I am pretty cautious, but still things sneak in. I haven't had a virus infect my computer since I have been using AVG. (I can't say the same for McAfee.)
Cons: The firewall feature (yes, you want this) the firewall updates with new programs you run, etc. While this is nice, it likes to let you know it is updating your profile. You don't need to respond, but it tells you anyway. Only happens when you run something new, but still it annoys me a little. So I took off 1/2 of a star for that. I took off 1/4 of a star because I have had (only twice) problems where the firewall blocked outgoing traffic for some strange reason and I had to reboot. Every single firewall I have ever used has this exact same problem. I'm an old user of Zone Alarm and theirs did it a lot more frequently. So, since I believe this is an issue inherent with any software firewall, I'm only taking off 1/4 of a star.Read more ›
kept crashing, and so I had had to reload both............these are now in the garbage.
Nortons somehow never gets it right. you have to use a separete program to "totally" uninstall, rather than having one inside the
software. Ah, but then you have to go into my computer here and there including the REGISTRY, to really erase all of nortons little
so far, so good with AVG........absolutely no problems at all.
I am running a small home network of between 6-8 systems at any given time, and AVG IS has been installed on 3 of them for the last year and a half. The flexibility and ease of scheduling updates of AV definitions and scans during off peak hours appeals to me greatly so as to minimize the impact on network and system performance. This keeps the solution nearly transparent which is what is to be striven for with any AV product.
Having a look at the log file at the junk that has been captured always brings a smile to my face as well.
Being warned ahead of time by the link scanner of malicious websites is great for less experienced users, as it helps prevents drive-by script attacks from being launched in the first place.
All in all, until I hear of something much easier to set and forget, I'll keep buying and installing it on new builds for some to come. Highly recommended.

Works pretty well without impacting performance, and best of all, it's the only AV I've found so far that works with 64-bit Windows XP.Published on July 16, 2010 by Sonya Fox

Thank you AVG.
Not user friendly. Very difficult to navigate. I have used McAfee and Norton in the past and they have been satisfactory. I thought this system might be better but it wasn't. Read morePublished on July 14, 2010 by Tommy Wu
