AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane
The Hurricane, produced for the Royal Air Force by Hawker Aircraft Ltd, is a single-seater fighter aircraft that saw combat throughout World War II. Though often overshadowed by the Spitfire, it was the Hawker Hurricane that was truly the most acclaimed, successful and reliable aircraft for the Allied Forces.
Many consider the Hurricane the unsung hero of the Battle of Britain. It delivered more enemy kills in this crucial victory than any other aircraft combined.

I'll begin this by saying that I am relatively "young" in the watch collection game. To know what this Hawker Hurricane is being compared against, know that my collection consists of two automatics; an Invicta Pro Diver and Seiko 009, and three quartz watches; a Citizen Promaster EcoDrive, Casio G-Shock Rescue and Victorinox Maverick Chronograph.
Beginning with the good. I love a watch with history. Avi-8, while a newish company, represents British Air Force history well; their watches are modeled after WWII fighter planes and even some more modern fighter jets. It arrives in a cool, military style box. The appearance is very pleasing, it is one of my thinner-faced watches and it's very bright/clean/crisp... in other words very easy to read and stands out. I love the fighter plane decal in the chronograph window and the tachometer- a true pilot watch. The leather band is soft, comfortable and durable. No signs of wear on it after almost a year. The watch can be dressed up or down, with a suit or shorts and a tank. It is water resistant with only a push down crown, but I wouldn't push it for any major adventures, I don't like getting leather bands wet anyways. It is light and practical. And most importantly to me: it keeps excellent time! It's a quartz so this should be expected, but it is my second most accurate time keeper- loses about a second every seven days. Do note this could be a battery that needs changing.
As for the negative points, and mind you these are not very bad, I'd certainly buy this watch again. They did not put lume on the numbers, so in the dark the watch is movado-style... in other words just hands and you can kinda tell what time it is. And the lume on the hands is not very bright itself, but gets the job done through the night. The other issue centers around the chronograph. It is as accurate as the watch and very cool in that you get the milliseconds, seconds and minutes, but you can only time one hour. Again, not a big deal as I can still time many things. But one other point with the chronograph is the amount of time it takes when you stop and reset it. Takes excessively long to reset.
All in all a handsome, accurate and practical watch with a great history and minor details that could've been made for improvement, but do not take away from its greatness. 7 stars out of 10.
Anyways, back to the watch. It is gorgeous. I could tell right away that the case is very sturdy, well designed, and tightly sealed (from my experience of unscrewing the back of the first watch). The colors and details on the face are vivid and beautiful. Mechanically it works very well. The chronograph functions start and stop on a dime and are very precise for a watch of this price range, and even for those that are more expensive. I changed out the strap for a slightly weathered Hadley Roma Dark leather strap (pictured), and it brought out the details even more!
I am very happy with this purchase and will likely purchase more from AVI-8 down the road. I highly recommend it if you are wanting a well built, classic piece with updated elements and a strong, dedicated brand behind it.
I would change the rate to two stars or so, if I would have had the chance of getting it replaced and didn't have to pay tax, but this is not even an option, which is not acceptable at all!!!!!!!
