AV-4024 Lancaster Bomber
A vintage designed homage to the Lancaster Bomber. The AV-4022 collection has a coin edged bezel cushion case that exudes heritage inspired sophistication. Both, AV-4022 & AV-4024 have a double riveted leather strap which is supple and weathered for a timeless aviation feel. Powering these cases are a split timing chronograph movement with 3 subdials set above the 6 o’clock position referencing the bulbous turrets of the Lancaster Bomber. Stark large visible hour index references – add legibility, crispness and a military sensibility to this exquisite collectible timepiece from AVI-8.
The 3 chronograph subdial display references the 3 turrets that defended the Lancaster bomber against attack. This unique layout allows for absolute performance visibility clearing time keeping from time measurement with clarity and style. This timepiece from the Lancaster Bomber collection exudes style, class and everyday elegance. Classic watch proportions are blended with vintage aviation sensibilities with the double riveted strap and strong hour and minute hands.
AVI-8 Lancaster Bomber
The Avro Lancaster is a British four-engined Second World War heavy bomber designed and built by Avro for the Royal Air Force (RAF). An impressive piece of kit - definitely not for a small wrist - at 44mm X 12mm approximately. A nice looking watch and a fitting tribute to the mighty Lancaster Bomber of WW2. As a son of a Lancaster pilot I was determined to get one of these and although it is quite expensive compared to some more conventional watches, even at Amazon's discounted price, I was happy with my purchase. The stopwatch function is a bit pointless as the dials are too small to read, or resolve, to be much use, but they look quite good anyway. As someone may have pointed out, the night visibility is non-existent as at best, the numbers illuminate (luminous paint) but the hands do not as far as I can see. Time will tell - no pun intended. Hopefully it will last the distance and not fly to bits like a poor Lancaster struck by flak. My thanks to the members of Bomber Command and the Lancaster bombers that they flew - to which this watch is dedicated.
At first glance it looks like a nice enough watch and I like the layout of the face but after closer inspection I think it looks a bit cheap. Especially considering the price. After an initial perusal of the watch I am going to return it. I cannot speak as to its time keeping accuracy.
Wish they would make a Spitfire watch to go along with the Hurricane and Lancaster. Only have a seafire so far.
