When you buy things for a loved one in a facility they should be practical and inexpensive. Personal belongings get lost, stolen, and damaged all the time. With these shoes you get what you pay for but the high end walking shoes with straps are too expensive to regularly replace. Older people can have a lot of foot problems. I ordered a wide because my mom has callouses and bunions and these are barely wide enough. They really need an E in width. The tread is a bit difficult on commercial carpeting - ideally you want as flat a shoe bottom as possible for stability.
PROS: cheap, velcro straps helps caregivers get disabled person ready quickly and easily, decent arch support, Scotchgard protected, if person has dementia and can't remember how to tie a lace they can still adjust their own shoes. CONS: cheaply made, elastic band attaches the tongues of the shoes to the sole (cant adjust), very little padding in tongues for comfort, all synthetic everything, sole will get things lodged in it and isn't flat or wide enough for stability. Finally, these have an SL-1 last which is standard and causes most of people's foot problems. A shoe with an SL-2 last (high end walking shoe) will have a deeper, wider toe box, a higher instep height, and a heel that is slightly more narrow than that of a standard shoe.
TIP: If you're a woman with wide feet and have trouble with women's shoes not being wide enough or in larger sizes, you can try the men's version of a shoe model. It usually costs less and the only sacrifice you'll make is instead of pink and white tennis shoes you'll have blue and white ones. You should be able to wiggle your toes in a good shoe while having your arches and heels firmly supported. If you need more room in the toe box to do it you need better shoes. TIP: You can take out the insoles and get more room or use thin gel inserts.
I hope these stay available, because these are my new go-to work shoe. Way better than Reeboks.
My only complaint is that the velcro tabs seem a bit long for me. Probably someone with wider feet will appreciate this.
Please note: if you are on your feet all day, are an old like me or have arch problems (like me); you will remove the insole, put in an arch support and a proper insole.
