I have a like/hate relationship with this book.

As a "one-off" I think it was good enough, but I can't imagine it as part of a series. Lizzy may be a detective, but she shows very little skill at it in "solving" this mystery. It's regaining/trusting her memories that propels the story, and the conclusions she and her cohorts reach SHOULD have been reached much earlier by the pros.

Lizzy and Jared seem a bit too "YA" as a couple, they're supposed to be in their mid to late 20s, but, somehow they don't seem like it.

I have to say that, except for the cat, the torture is really only hinted at or referred to in a clinical way and not described in detail, which I actually appreciated.

This book is very well written. The author does a great job of setting each chapter and bringing the characters into the story. Following episodes of this series should be very interesting also. As I was reading the book I realized that some of the events were a little "stretched" as far as being a likely way for it to happen but, then again, it is a fiction novel. The overall story and the writers ability to keep me interested deserve 5 stars.

I bought the first two books 10/12. When 3-5 came to my attention, I bought them 4/15. The book description for ABDUCTED seemed familiar to me; but, on closer inspection, I realized I'd never read 1 or 2. So I read this book yesterday in one day. I have a lot of time to read. Just couldn't put it down.

Okaaay. It's got flaws. The plot at times is predictable, but there is enough suspense to keep it moving. Sometimes the plot seems unbelievable, but we can write that off to poetic license. Sometimes it just doesn't flow right between scenes. That's when an editor comes in handy. Keep in mind that this is the first book of a series. I've read none of the author's other works. I have confidence that each book in the series will get better.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was fast paced. The character development was well done. There was quite a variety of characters who were good to extremely evil. All of them were well portrayed. except for when the author would delve into clichés. The portrayal of evil was graphic but nothing I couldn't handle. Evil didn't have big, long, intense scenes. That I can't handle.

I can't wait to read more and have started 2. I gifted the series to my daughter and know she will love it. I would encourage anyone who likes detective mysteries to read it, too.

I did not like, for different reasons. One is that I am a 30ish year old male and this mystery is clearly targeted to young teenage girls. The main characters is a girl, all the abducted victims are teenage girls, the evil abductor is an older man and there is a little bit of romance. The plot was quite unbelievable at times and telegraphed, I could forecast what would happen chapters in advanced. The language is simple, unchallenging. The plot is also fraught with cliché, the protagonist feels like a bad copy of Dexter for he is convinced of the righteousness of his crimes which he does to clear up society of imperfect teenage girls, who everyone is, to a certain degree. The characters either good or evil, lacking in depth.

All in all, if you are a girl, and a teenage,r you might enjoy it, if you purely seek distraction. Conversely, if you like deeper suspense, challenging prose and plot, better characters development and a realistic story line then you will be highly disappointed.

I struggled between 3 stars and 4 stars and decided on 4 because maybe it has to do with the fact that this is not what I normally read. Ok....my thoughts on the book, this is the story of a girl abducted by coincidence by a serial killer when she was 17 years old. She went out to meet her boyfriend for one last time before he went to college and not wanting her parents to know asks him to leave her close to home but not exactly in front so that they wouldn't noticed. Here my first problem starts.... They already knew there was a serial killer out and still she asks and he not only lets her out but drives away......I just can't imagine any bf who cared driving away, he would at least watch her........anyway my second bit of a problem is that the book is featured in the romance list, so I thought romance + thriller! Let me say this is really heavy on the thriller part and stingy on the romance. As another reviewer said I also would have liked to see a bit more of what happened in those 10 years and also theyre relationship now to come to a closing, but it dosnt it is left totally opened ( I'm guessing to be further explained in a sequel). There are also some points ( related to the abduction,I won't get info them so I don't spoil the story) that she realizes while talking to the ex boyfriend but she's been in therapy all along...hard to believe it wouldn't have come out then. Anyway the story focuses and this women now trying to capture the killer who is again on the loose. I think there are a bit of loose ends but if you like thrillers I'm sure you'll love the book. Even though I had all this questions I was rooted to my couch trying to finish it. To me the love story would have make the difference in my rating, to have seen at least some conclusion but sadly not a thing in that department it ends and your left wondering what will happened with them.

First off, it's hard to write a book, especially a page-turner, so a well deserved congratulations to the author.
That being said, I felt that this book fell far short.
First of all, if you want to read a book that makes you shake your head and ask WHY DONT THEY SEE WHO THE KILLER IS? Then this book is for you.
Secondly. the book, allegedly about the strength and resilience of our protagonist Lizzy Gardner, does nothing but show her shortcomings. She teaches a self-defense class but can never defend herself. She constantly needs a man to help her with everything from making her happy again (can't she rediscover her self-esteem and love herself?) to literally saving the day. In the end I was left wondering why we should should look forward to more books about a "hero" that is at her best a fumbling woman with a good heart and at her worst a person who needs to be defined by, and saved by, a man.

The plot and story line roughly parallel those of the book "Descent" and "The One Who Got Away." The overall development of the story (trying to avoid spoilers) is somewhat predictable. The image of the FBI is bumbling and incompetent, which was bothersome, and at times the central characters are also clumsy and incompetent, most of which rang true. The characters outside of the protagonist seem a little thinly developed. The criminal at the heart of the story is reasonably well developed but at times seems to have superpowers, appearing here and there almost at will while maintaining his double identity perfectly. The author seems to exaggerate the coldness of the mild Sacramento, CA, climate, where nearly every winter day will reach 50 degrees, and winter nights are rarely worse than just below freezing; but she never mentions the tule fog that often blankets Sacramento in the winter mornings. The audio version was well read, with only a few glitches in local pronunciations.

As 17 year old Lizzy Gardner returns home after sneaking out to be with her boyfriend, she is abducted by a serial killer and held and tortured for two months, before managing to be the only girl to ever escape from him. Flash forward 14 years and Lizzy is teaching teenage girls classes on self-defense. She is still haunted by her ordeal, and when the infamous Spiderman surfaces again, she takes action to make sure that he is stopped once and for all. This one kept me turning the pages, and had a sprinkle of romance thrown in. There are some scenes that are fairly graphic in nature, and may offend some readers. A very good beginning to a new series.

This was my first time reading anything from this author and I was not disappointed. Although I thought the story line was a little far fetched, with serial killers who knows how they think, right? At any rate the book was a great read, in my opinion, keeping the reader in suspense (and guessing) for most of the book. The author kept giving us little tidbits of information to fuel our minds about who the killer might be and until late in the book most of those were explained away. I thought the ending was much more realistic than a lot of other books of this nature that I have read making the entire story much more believable. I liked this book so much that I purchased the second book in this series and am reading it now and enjoying it just as much as the first. I would highly recommend this book and this author to those who enjoy a great murder/mystery!!

I loved the intensity and intrigue of the characters and their interwoven history. Lizzy and Jared had their lives changed forever 14 years ago and all because of one man's vendetta for a cruel act done to him by his older sisters friends. It is amazing how Physcho's begin thinking the evil that they spread is doing society a favor and the Spiderman of Abducted is no different. Time is ticking by as Lizzy has to figure out the clues and remember the horrors of her own abduction in order to save her niece Brittany and one of her self defense students, Hayley.
She was unable to save the girl with no tongue and others when she was abducted as a young teen and she has dedicated her adult life to saving and training girls to be alert and fight back as her way of making up for her failures so many years ago. Elizabeth Gardner has never gotten over the survivor's guilt and Spiderman is using that to get back at her now that he is back to claim his story and legacy of torture. Lizzy and Jared must work through all the years of not communicated to make this happen before Spiderman kills her niece!
