I can relate to most of the abductees, since I was abducted at age 7 and was never allowed to talk about it...it was only a nightmare my mother would say...I'm 64 now and I remember when and where it took place. All my life I have kept it to myself, but that has never stopped me from investigating...so happy and thankful to know I'm not crazy and to think I was. I have read many books on abduction...but I must say this one has been the best written by Dr. Mack. Dr. Jacobs book have been also very educational. I want to thank these two doctors and everyone else who has dare to speak out the truth on Aliens.

If you enjoy reading a book written at a PhD level this is it. The book written by Dr. Mack goes into deal about the alien abduction phenomenon very well. As far as I am concern, he wrote the book on the subject. I learned a great deal from this author. I also, learned an answer to a question I have had for a long time. Do the aliens mind that their abductees are telling people about their abductions? No, there has been "no retaliations" from people talking about their abduction stories.

Dr. Mack use hypnosis to help is patients remember their abduction experiences. I found them all to be interesting. I feel much more enlightened on the subject than I ever was. I highly recommend people to read this book if they need to know information about the alien abduction phenomenon.

Dr. Mack is/ was a Harvard psychiatrist that is also trained in the art of regressions (hypnosis). This was the added sign-on for me to want to read the book.

It is written at a PhD level, oh well. Look up the terms if need be. Some of the words he uses I had to look up. But I do not regret reading this book. I found it a great source of information and the abductees were regular as you and me. Most of them are educated but still, the people and what the go through do not happen to special people. These abductions happen to regular people and advanced educated people.

With that said, I found this book to be much worth my time and energy reading. I found it highly informal on the subject. I do definitely recommend it.

If you are interested in anything involving Alien abductions and the stories involved therein, then this is the book for you. If you are often curious about the kinds of things that extraterrestrials might say then this is DEFINITELY the book for you. Though somewhat slow at times and with some of the stories involved personally having me sit there and wonder what the heck was actually going on just because of some of the hard to believe aspects involved with one or two stories, the book is certainly a page turner that any extraterrestrial enthusiast must have on their shelves. The author went through quite the ordeal because of his belief and decision to help the people going through this, and in the end barely received any recognition for the things that he had done. John Mack went places that were, at the time, fairly unexplored for fear of ridicule and his research shows the amount of passion he held for the subject.

Mainly I want to thank you, John Mack, for two things - having an open mind to understand that science is about what we DON'T know and for somehow being able to articulate all the subtleties of this "issue" in a very understandable way. With all the factors and nuances and "maybes" in exploring the possibility of "alien abductions," I find it amazing that you can explain everything without using convoluted and hard-to-read/absorb sentences; and I appreciate it. I really like the way you keep things straight for the reader, by saying things like 'there's more discussion of this is Appendix A," etc.

If you're a reader considering buying this book, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

The book is a bit too heavy on professional psychological analysis for my interests, although the author is careful to explain much of the implications of the brain's function, partially to show that the subjects are not being treated by amateurs, and partly to prove that they are having actual external experiences. Once he gets into the actual cases, I found it much more interesting.

Abduction by Dr. Mack explores the more spiritual aspect of the abduction phenomena by highlighting several cases of abductees who have come to terms with their abductions and even the abductors. Several of these abductees even believe they have a dual alien/human life, and one even believes he's 100% alien and he volunteered to come to earth as a human during reincarnation. I don't discount these views because the abduction scenario is so odd as a whole, who can say what is real. I tend to believe the aliens are conducting a misinformation campaign and deliberately confusing us so they can continue their agenda, whatever it may be. I disagree with Dr. Mack that they are possibly here to save mankind. They're going through an awful lot of trouble to soley benefit the human race while they themselves have little to gain. I lean more towards Dr. Jacobs theory and recommend any of you to read that as well, to understand both sides of the coin so to speak. The book is written well and professional and Dr. Mack is a well educated, well respected psychiatrist so I don't take his theory with a grain of salt, but he does at times seem reluctant to accept the possibility that we are in our end times. Even when his patients describe apocalyptic images shown to them by the aliens, Dr. Mack seems to try to label it a hypothetical, or perhaps taking place in a different dimension or parallel universe. I for one hope he is right, but I'm not so convinced. I do however appreciate the opposite end of the spectrum and reading of enlightening situations and not the doom and gloom versions most abduction books take on. I would highly recommend this book to any body interested in the unknown. It was a great and informative read.

If you've ever had doubts about Alien abduction this book will put you straight. John Edward Mack, M.D. (October 4, 1929 - Sep 27 2004) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer and a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and had 40yrs experience in his field when he first embarked upon this project.

This book will take you though actual case studies, conducted by Professor Mack, of people from all walks of life and ages who have had challenging, sometimes disturbing, and in every case, life changing experiences of alien abduction. Where the aliens come from and from what dimension is not clearly known; however part their involvement with us is explained by the abductees, or `Experiencers' as they are now known, as part of the information given to them when they experienced often frightening and unnerving clinical tests conducted by the alien beings. Yet out of this, and with the professional assistance of Professor Mack, most experiencers came to a self realisation that there is a sound spiritual message here for the whole of humankind.

Despite most of what is explained flies in the face of conventional Newtonian Scientific thinking and its emphasis on materialism, with the ever increasing interest now in Quantum Physics and experiments producing effects that defy all we have been brought up to believe, these abduction experiences seem more credible than ever before. Certainly Professor Mack was no fool in his field and a part of his overall summary of events includes this statement. `The alien beings have come to the abductees from a source that remains unknown to us. We still do not fully grasp their purpose or their methods'

Written in an easy to understand way it matters not whether you are from the scientific fraternity or simply have an interest in matters beyond the normal, you will be hanging onto every word as the `Experiencers' take you through their mind challenging and often harrowing experiences.

The Harvard Prof gets into the alien abduction phenomenon. He analyses it and tries to understand it in the wider picture - what it means for all of us. Who better than a top psychiatrist is qualified to deal with this? He can say clearly whether people claiming abduction are mentally ill or genuinely suffering. Whether you believe in aliens or not, there IS something going on and it does need investigating. This is a good read about the issue. Prof Mack was slated by Harvard and they tried to sack him but failed. He survived all that only to be killed by truck in England... This is but one source - there are many others supporting the same outcome. Prof Mack came to see that there are aliens and they do abduct people against their will for some purpose known only to the abducters.

It should be noted that 'Abduction' became the inspiration behind the legendary series of 'The X-Files'. To be honest this is a truly incredible piece of work by the late John E. Mack. Essentially 'Abduction' is an inspiring book - a collection of various stories and explanations of people who have been abducted over various points in time. Although 'Communion' by Whitley Streiber became the most well known book on the subject, 'Abductions' is a book that contains more detail and more people who have had the abduction experience. It is a fascinating read and although it is quite a long read, the subject is well and truly inspiring.
