I don't understand all the negative reviews for this movie, and all the comments about the bad acting. James Duval is an amazing actor, he's been in well over 100 movies and won awards. He's even been in several cult classic, Donnie Darko, The Doom Generation, SLC Punk!, Nowhere just to name a few! James' acting was amazing as usual. Now, the detective, he's acting was a little subpar, but other than that, the acting wasn't an issue in my opinion.
SPOILER!!!! I thought the story was great, there was a lot of subtlety in how Jen and Jeremy's relationship was portrayed. But if you pay attention it paints a picture for you. Jeremy is a serial killer, he abducts beautiful women and holds them captive and then begins to brain wash them, tells them how special they are and the kindness they deserve, and then they begin to feel affection towards them, basically Stockholm Syndrome 101. He does all of this so he can have consensual sex with them. He does this over and over again, and at first Jen is just like all the other women he's abducted, until he lets her go, and she doesn't want to leave. All the other women when given the chance to leave after their night of consensual love making don't give it a second thought, and as they try to leave that's when Jeremy kills them because they never truly liked him. He had every intention of killing Jen the same way, right down to the plastic on the floor to wrap her body up in. But when she walks right past the door and goes straight to Jeremy it takes him by surprise, and at that point she becomes different from all the rest. She doesn't want to leave, she wants to be with him. Jeremy then realizes he could have finally had the love he's always craved and wanted from a beautiful women, but he can't because he's a killer with a mountain of bodies in his backyard. So is only option is to let Jen go. Well, that's at least how I felt it played out.
