Abhuman, The Covenant, Book 1 is a splendid beginning to an intriguing new series. Hugh B. Long has created a multi-leveled society with the evil Tarbizhad ruling at the top, lusting for human blood, and the Abhumans at the bottom fighting for their very lives, their very existence. Each level of society has been carefully crafted with detail and vision. The writing is skillful and decisive as the reader is brought into a world filled with not only with terror, but with hope for the future.
I read Abhuman, The Covenant Book 1, in one sitting and I'm eager to read the next book as soon as it comes out.
The reading level is just right for a YA novel, too. The plot moves unfolds swiftly and deftly. I think even adults like me will enjoy this story. I am going to find more of this writer's work.
The world created by Hugh B. Long is phenomenal. One minute your in an inhabitable part of the world, the next your in a deserted wasteland trying to get to safety. And then you find out the truth behind why the planet is even a deserted wasteland and you're left in shock because it kind of makes you think about the potential damage that we're doing to our own planet. Though what was done here was intended, and what we're doing is not the intent.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series and see what happens next for the characters. I'm eager to see how their futures pan out, and to read more from Hugh B. Long.
