The Clever Coffee Dripper combines the best features of French Press and filter drip brewing, eliminating the drawbacks of each. By adding a stopper to a filtercone, the Clever Coffee Dripper combines control over steeping time with a sediment free cup.The dripper will fit on cups and thermoses with tops wider than 1.5" and less than 3.75" in diameter. Of course, if you put the dripper on a very narrow thermos you should make sure it is stable. Cleaning: Cleaning the Clever Coffee Dripper is ver easy. Just dispose of the used grounds and filter and rinse. Do not allow residue to build up in the filter. Lightly scrub the cone with very hot water and a sponge or brush, taking care to clean shut off mechanism lightly from the top. If necessary, use a detergent-free cleaner designed for carafes and filtercones.
Top customer reviews
I was very impressed with the coffee and easy of cleanup. I love my french press, but sometimes the silt is a bit much, and the extra parts and cleanup aren't always great. This gave me french press quality and then some, flavors are even more smooth honestly, and the cleanup and speed of use is fantastic. Absolutely love this method! Only drawback is with even the large size you are only getting about 2 cups, so it's definitely more of a personal brewing device than family/couple device. For how cheap it is, and how versatile (works great with pre-grind, your own grind, coarse, drip whatever), buying multiples if you have the counter space is an option.
Very impressed with this tool, such a small innovation over a normal dripper, but a huge difference. The valve works perfect and hasn't leaked at all for me, and cleanup is honestly pull out the filter and grounds and throw away, rinse quick, and set it back on your counter. No flaws at all in my opinion for making a mug or two of great coffee. Definitively my go-to brewing method now.
I saw that this newer version (so it seems) was released in color choices of clear, smoke, and brown. I watched my friend's early clever dripper slowly turn from fancy crystal clear to "meh grimy" color like an early Apple PC. So I certainly wanted to try something other than clear. I initially thought the brown since coffee tends to turn things that sahde anyways. Ended up going with the smoke since I thought it looked better overall and would hide the discoloring well enough. This version is pretty much the same as my friends early version in every way except the color, different handle shape, wavy shape of the top rim, and the curved handle on the lid.
Some #4 filters and hot water and we're in business. I would say compared to the AeroPress the coffee is slightly different but probably not discernible to the usual coffee drinker. Using the clever dripper is certainly a simpler process and cleanup is slightly faster (less fuss) than the AeroPress with a reusable filter.
Small -vs- Large sizes. I find that the size detail is usually hard to find or overlooked in the descriptions. Make sure you get the Large if you drink a normal person's size cup of coffee. The Small size is useless. If the description is not clear or does not list the size then move onto another seller that clearly lists the size. The only drawback to the Large is it being a decent sized clutter object if you leave it out in plain sight.
The only thing the manufacturer missed opportunity on during this revision was improving the four feet pegs to a more robust design. These can break off as they age and with rough everyday use. Once a foot breaks off it will not sit level anymore and might activate the drain valve. Just make the feet go all the way around like a continuous lip!!!
