The first installment follows senior teacher and assistant school director Abigail Hembree as she ventures out West with her ten year old son Joshua and five year old daughter Maggie to marry Matthias Blake and hopefully start a school of her own. While excited about the adventure before her, Abigail is also afraid of suffering the same physical and emotional abuse she endured during her first marriage. Matthias, who is anxious to be a husband and father, is a kind hearted and generous livery owner who is looking for a HEA. Can Matthias break through Abigail's defenses and win over her stubborn son? Can Abigail open a much needed school without interference or the high expenses demanded by Mr. King? And who is the Black Ace that seems to be more mystery than man?
Read on to find our more as Caroline Lee presents an endearing and sweet start to what looks to be an exciting new series.
I received an ARC copy of this story for a fair and honest review.
Madam Wigg or Wiggie as Abigail’s son affectionally called her and the name stuck. Wiggie told Abigail she was dying and told her she had to do this and that she knew why Abigail was afraid of men.
With the idea she would get grant from Madam Wigg when her school opened as that was the big reason Abigail would need to go forth.
As the train pulls into the station in Black Aces, Montana Abigail starts to get a bit unsure about this again and her son Joshua is just plain mad that his mom is going to remarry.
Matthias Blake is a man who really wants a family and is excited to meet the children and his new wife to be. Not all goes well at first and Joshua is really upset about this whole thing but her daughter Maggie is the youngest and he can’t wait to meet them all.
Well after their quick wedding they head home to the recently new built home. Abigail is shocked that he builds this wonderful house for her and her kids and each of her children have their own room.
They go see the school and there is a big disappointment that he didn’t tell her not only the bad condition it is in but that he never told the person that claims he owns this land the school house and he wants rent. If people don’t pay things burn down.
This is a really good story that you start reading and can’t stop until you are at the end. I really loved this story and I can’t wait to read the rest of the Alphabet Mail-Order Brides in this series.
I highly recommend you start with this first book and go to the next and next until you are done. This review is my own opinion and no one asked me to do this.
