I've used this filter about 3x per day for the last 6 months. Lately I've noticed that it seems very hard to press. I looked at the screen and so many of the holes are clogged. I have tried to brush it, soak it, flush water through it...but nothing really seems to improve it much. Can anyone suggest a cleaning method that works so that all the holes are open?

I just got the filter yesterday and made our morning coffee using it. I was expecting to notice a difference in flavor or some grit getting through. Instead the flavor may have been a little brighter(possibly more oils get through) and there was no grit.
I use Paradise Roasters Espresso blends beans and a commercial grinder.
I use the same very fine setting on the grinder for the Aeropress as I do my Rancilio espresso machine.
I use the inversion method with between 1-2 scoops coffee.
Love the consistent results with the Aeropress and now love being able to not worry about the filters.
The filter seems durable enough not to overly worry about it. I'm more worried I'll forget to keep it and not just pop it out like the paper filters!
***Update
So this filter is great, but it seems to clog over time. It will look clean but it gets harder and harder to press. When holding the screen up to a light you can see that the very fine holes are getting clogged with coffee and oils. Able recommends rubbing dish detergent on both sides forcing it through the holes as you massage it with your thumb. This does not work at all. I tried citrasolv and vinegar with little success, but soaking the disk in my Cafiza which I use for my espresso machine seems to do the trick. I'm thinking of leaving a cup of cleaner to put the disk in each night might get the holes clean.
***Update 2
Still having cleaning issues. Went back to using paper filters as a result.

This is a really nice filter. I bought it to replace an S filter that I thought I'd lost. Of course, I found it after this one arrived. The good news is that they both work really well, and I cannot taste a difference in my coffee using either one. Both will let more oils into your cup than the paper filters will, which is a flavor I prefer. However, it looks like I'm getting a bit more crema with the Able Brewing Disk. The S filter has larger pores because you can see through it easier. And I've noticed that I have to rinse the Able Brewing Disk under forceful water to be sure to get all the small particles out of its pores. The disk is a better fit than the S filter. But both seem fragile enough that I will have to be very careful not to damage them. The Able Brewing Disk is a very good alternative to the paper filters.

The taste of the coffee is greatly improved with this filter versus the paper ones. It's a bit harder to push the plunger, but still doable. While traveling recently, I used the paper coffee cups that were in my hotel room and was worried about the amount of pressure I had to use to push the plunger down, but it wasn't bad. So...it's harder to push, but not so hard as to crumble a paper coffee cup.
I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 simply because it's a bit more hassle to clean this (as opposed to throwing out the paper filters). You have to be sure to rinse it really well to get the grounds out of the tiny holes. I use a slighter coarser grind now (somewhere around medium fine) and may go even a bit coarser to avoid sediment at the bottom of my cup which tends to be more than with the paper filters for obvious reasons (holes).

Had for a few months now, at least 100 Aero Press brews through this filter. Absolutely zero clogs! Like new. So I imagine the folks whose filters keep getting clogged are 1) letting it dry and harden before cleaning, or 2) the ground coffee is so fine, like powder, that it gets trapped in the pores. But most likely number 1. Buy this, you won't regret It! And remember, wash with hot water to degrease, rinse with cold water.

So why are they cogging? Well, I am not sure but I do have a guess.. I live in Arizona where all of our water comes from miles and miles of desert canals to be treated at the City's treatment plants.. That means the water here is hard as hell. Even when treated with my R.O. system. I think the mix of hard water and coffee oils are simply clogging up these tiny holes. And I cant get them to unclog at this point.
If you have had success unclogging the holes please share. I went back to paper filters today. Yuck.

I have made over 3,000 Aeropress coffees with the standard paper filters and can guarantee this filter will improve the taste and quality of your coffee. Period. Right now, I am between 80 & 90 uses with this Able Brewing Disk Fine for the Aeropress and just getting into a serious problem. I still love the DISK Fine but it is finally so clogged up it doesn't function properly any longer. Because it is now so clogged it occasionally spits the coffee up around the sides of the cap and even up out the top plunger area (*EVEN ON A BRAND NEW AEROPRESS*). The Disk Fine was taking much more effort and time to press the coffe around the 60 uses mark. I always rinse the disk after every use and after the days 3-4 even 5 cups are done I use soapy water to clean. I even used my pressure washer to attempt and unclog the disk last night. The pressure washer did not clear more than 10% of my clogged holes. Holding it up to the light I am still 40% clogged. (Note the Disk is still in great shape. No wear and tear. Very durable).

I bought this to replace the paper filters which need to be reordered and waited on to arrive. I have wanted this for years and finally bought it. The water rushes through quickly with almost no time to stir the slurry before the push tube is used. Use it if you don't mind a mouthful of sludge in the bottom of your morning.

Great for Aeropress
Reviewed in Canada on April 26, 2020Verified Purchase
We bought this as we didn't want to keep using the paper filters for our Aeropress. This works well. To wash, you can just rinse under water or pop it in the dishwasher. Depending on how fine you grind your coffee, however, some fine coffee grounds can seep through (whereas the paper filters catch this). We have had this for a few years and it still works well. Would recommend.

My go to filter for quick cups and slightly finer grinds for medium roasts and flavoured brews
Reviewed in Canada on November 24, 2015Verified Purchase
My go to filter for quick cups and slightly finer grinds for medium roasts and flavoured brews. This filter with a fairly course grind, around kosher salt sized, leaves almost all of the cups free of all but the finest particles. I have run it a few times with a near espresso grind (4 from full tight on my Prolex Tall) and the expected very fine layer was present in the cup, but not all that different from the paper filters. Also have the standard filter, and side by side the standard seems to take a bit more pressure for most grinds.

Perfectly replaced my paper filters

I love it. I am not sure I can taste a difference from the paper filters, but it is not harder to press (I use burr grinder set on ultra-fine and it is still not a problem with clogging), and it cleans up easy with less waste. A very nice filter.

Go for it and make even better coffee.

My coffee tastes richer with less grinds. There is a noticeable increase in coffee extraction when compared with paper filters. This is subjective, of course there is data that suggests paper filter reduces the chemical extraction of coffee.
The Able Disk fits perfectly in my aeropress cap (so well designed that there is < 1 mm clearance). The disk is sturdy and is surprisingly rigid.

Great filter, provides a different taste to your coffee
Reviewed in Canada on August 11, 2017Verified Purchase
Not a necessity, but it offers a different/fuller taste when using an Aeropress as opposed to paper filters. I find that at the grind setting I like I get some sludge in my cup, but the same thing happens with paper filters. A great travel accessory since you only need to bring one!
