Note - see similar review for the NC 200Bs. I own two of the NC200s and one pair of the NC180Bs. I can't tell the difference between the 200s and 180s, they look the same and perform the same.

I have the Bose NC15 and three pairs of the Able Planet Headphones for my daughters and wife. I travel frequently, so we could justify the cost of the Bose for me (my wife uses them when we travel together). We couldn't justify spending another $900 for three more pairs of Bose. These headphones are exceptional for movies on the airplane, or for listening to audio books. They don't sound as good as the Bose, but for less than a third of the price, what do you expect?

I've had two of these for over a year, and we just bought a third pair. So far, a small pice of plastic fell off of one of the battery doors, but it still works fine. No other problems.

I, too, bought these from Costco yesterday. After listening with them overnight I've found them to be adequate headphones. If you will be a casual user (couple of plane trips, couple of vacations, etc.) then these will work for you. I first tried them in Costco and was surprised how well they masked the noise within the warehouse. I turned the noise reduction switch on and off many times (without music playing) and it clearly reduced the surrounding sounds from the customers and goings on. Listening to music from my iPhone was very good. I was surprised to hear new things in songs I've been listening to for a long time. The fit is comfortable so far and my head and ears have felt fine. So, if you're a casual user like myself, I think these would work out for you. But, if you're an audiophile with finely tuned ears and high-end home audio, probably stay with Bose or like makers.

I purchased the headset from costco several days ago for 39.99 + tax. It is pretty decent given the price.

The noise canceling is the one attracted me. I tried it at costco warehouse and all of a sudden, the world became silent. I used it at home and it did a pretty good job canceling out low-frequency noise from the air heat system, refrigerator and dryer. You can hear a little hiss sound when you turn on the noise canceling function without any music. If you play music on it, you hardly hear that hiss sound. Don't expect it cancels out all the external sound like baby crying or people talking. Those are high frequency sound and most noise canceling headphones around 50 dollar just don't go good job on that. I like the design that you can unplug the cable and just wear the headset. I'll used it next time when I mow my lawn when weather gets warmer, I'm sure it will cancel out most noise from the machine.

The play back quality is not good if you don't turn on the noise canceling, you'll feel you are under water. In this case bass is muddy and all over you. You'll feel it lacks mid range and high frequency. However if you turn on the noise canceling, you'll notice the difference immediately. The bass became better and all mid and high frequency jumps out. The sound is clear and soft, not something you can use to feel the beats and blow your brain. I used it on classical music and blues and like it. So turn on the noise canceling when you use it.

Overall, I'll give 5 stars for just 40 bucks.

Bottom line, if you want some great value noise canceling headset for canceling out low frequency background noise and don't run for perfect sound, go with it if you can get it under 50 bucks. If you really picky about sound quality, don't buy it.

My wife and I purchased two of these headphones at the same time at Costco, about six months ago. About us... We are occasional listeners when it comes to headphones. We use them mostly to watch movies on the iPad and on the airplane. For the price, $50, the sound quality is good, and the noise cancellation works well. We both tried the noise canceling features on a couple of flights we took, and it worked well. Whether on an airplane or not, expect to have the noise cancelation feature turned on all the time. Otherwise the sound is too low, and the sound not as clear.
Why one star? The headphones fold up into a compact size so you can carry them easily on a bag. When you want to use them, you open them and they are locked in place by a plastic tab on the center of the head strap. When you wish to fold them again, you press in on this tab and they fold. The problem arises if the tab breaks. At that point, the headphones fit very loose and they are worthless. Mine broke after three months. I figured that maybe I had done something wrong, so I just put them away. This morning, my wife mentioned to me that hers broke as well. Now, she uses her headphone maybe 50 percent of the time I use mine, and I rarely use mine. We are very careful with our stuff and not forceful with things we own; So, at this point, I'm guessing its a manufacturer's defect. I was checking the warranty card, and just found out they require the original box. To me, this is just a way to make it difficult on someone to file a warranty claim. I am not going to bother with it, and won't be buying this brand again.
