I really enjoyed this, but I do have to say that the only reason it did not get five stars is because the book is divided into four parts. I think this would be better as a whole. U read part 1 and at the end it totally leaves u hanging so u have to read book two and so on. But other than that it is excellent read. I am waiting on book four now.

This book struck some sort of primal fear within me. I wanted to put it down but I couldn't stop reading it straight through. I found myself constantly looking over my shoulder while reading it. Look forward to the second part of this series.

The story line and many scenes are predictable and the characters are cookie-cutter - but the writing is descriptive and the tone set made me curious as to what would happen. (reminds me a bit of the dread and creep from the first American Horror Story) Some parts where just flat out freaky! And of course - it ended on a cliff hanger. I'm not inclined to read the rest however, because the characters are just too stupid - and I'm not that curious as to what will happen to stupid characters. I might cave in eventually, just because I like the writing style.

This author has a great gift of creating creepy and suspensful stories. This is my first book by this author, and I am reading the second in the series now. If you enjoy being curious and scared, then Mr. Ibsen is for you!!

Review: IN ABSENTIA by Ambrose Ibsen
[Black Acres Book One]

For a totally scary reading experience, written lyrically with vivid imagery, Ambrose Ibsen's ongoing Black Acres serial is the way to go. I am reading these on Kindle Unlimited--in fact, I read IN ABSENTIA on Halloween, then THE BORDERLAND and THE AMBER LIGHT the next day. Husband and wife Julian and Kim, urban tenants, experience a financial windfall and purchase an extremely isolated country home. In the process of renovation in solitude, odd things turn up [strange photos, a mildewed journal, a concealed room]. Kim becomes obsessed with the previous owners, who'd constructed the home several decades ago, then disappeared nearly eight years ago. Recently declared deceased in absentia, the house became available for Kim and Julian. For Kim, it's as if the house and woods are alive, and long-disappeared Dakota Reed is directing Kim's quest.
