A decent read, a collection of blog posts put into a book about doing a first marathon. It's strength is a step by step process in how a regular person (well, in this case, already to some extent a runner having started the year before) could take on a marathon. Gives lots of fun tips for a real person to use. This is more a humor book and not a training plan, though some of that is included too. Has some neat ideas for those trying to figure out how to tackle a first.

This is a great book for the type of book it is. It is not a great book if you are wanting to just get the nuts and bolts about running. This reads like a journal and just as much about life, her dog, the running store, and so on. At first I was disappointed because the book is not addressed to me but reads again like a journal but once you start reading you end up wanting to know more. Not bad at all.

I love this book... it's one of those stories that makes you laugh out loud because she writes openly about what most of us are thinking, but too afraid to speak. Brook is hilarious, honest and doesn't hold back. The best part is the book has inspired me to start running and love it.

I honestly couldn't get past the 3rd page. is the author 12?? or worried that mommy and daddy will know that she says adult words?
I was really looking forward to reading this, but just - oh my G*d -- couldn't.

Onward is one of those reads that you can't put down! You laugh. You cry. You cringe right along with Brook. Even better....you WANT to go out and set a goal for yourself! I will be recommending this to all my running friends....and anyone else that needs a boost in goal setting!

I already followed Brooke on Facebook so when she mentioned her book in a blog I had to read it. I can only say that I laughed until I cried and took inspiration from this book! I have signed up for my first half now and I feel like I can do it just because Brook said I can! (yes, I realize she can't run the miles for me, but she sure makes you feel like she'll be there cheering you on.) It's no B.S. information, rules and raw experience turned education about those of us crazy enough to hit the asphalt, concrete, grass, trails, etc. reaching for a goal or to simply check something off the bucket list. A MUST READ for anyone who is considering running, already runs or just wants a great laugh.

This was a fun, cute, easy read. Brook's writing style is witty, smart, honest, and fun. I read this book while I was training for a marathon and I found it to be inspirational while providing solid tips and tricks on marathon training. I never fully grasped her husband's involvement / support with her training and/or why he was running the half marathon instead of the full. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a female perspective on long distance running.

Brook is very honest as she blogs her daily marathon training experience. As I finished this book, I'm 7 weeks and 20 miles into my training for my first marathon and knowing what she went through makes me feel just as normal, and not so alone.

If you don't mind reading cursing (hidden with *s), and are thinking about or currently training for a marathon, pick up this book for a read!
