About Abu Garcia
Originally a watch factory, Abu Garcia was founded in Svangsta, Sweden, near the Morrum River in 1921. Founder Carl August Borgstrom was a clever craftsman with a talent for light precision engineering. The company originally manufactured pocket watches, telephone timers, and taxi meters until World War II, when the demand for taxi meters sharply declined. Undaunted, Abu Garcia redirected its skills toward the development of precision fishing reels, eventually receiving the honor of being chosen "Purveyor to the Royal Swedish Court"--a distinction bestowed upon a select group of manufacturers who consistently exceeded the court's high standards of quality and craftsmanship. Abu Garcia remains firmly committed to maintaining its industry leadership position by providing anglers everywhere with the highest-quality, most-innovative products.

First, I really like the way this reel feels in my hand. I have used it on two different rods, one a 7'6 med-heavy and one a 7'2 med action rod. This reel has worked well on both. The Revo Premier casts very well. The distance is outstanding, however, I do believe that when you are not paying attention and trying to reach past that spot on the out edge of your casting range, this reel has a much higher tencancy to backlash than do the Chronarch reels. Casting distance is about the same give or take in comparison with the Chronarch. The Revo Premier handles and casts flourocarbon line slightly better whereas the Chronarch handles and casts mono slightly better. The reel seems to handle fish well--meaning that it has plenty of torque to fight in the big largemouth and spotted bass that are abundant in central Alabama.
It is important, however, that you break loose the drag each morning when you start fishing. Otherwise, you could end up with broken line when your drag should have let the fish pull some line out. Just turn your drag down a little bit and pull on the line until the drag begins releasing. You will notice that although it is initially difficult to begin pulling out the drag, once it begins coming off, the drag is very smooth and has very little variation--meaning it does not stop and become hard to break loose again.
One last note, make your first couple of casts no further than medium distance.Read more ›
I really like this real. I heard alot of talk about Shimano's and started to go with one of them but found a great deal here on Amazon for this real and wanted to try it out.
It is a very light weight reel and cast very smoothly. The braking system on the reel is very nice as well. It was quick and easy to adjust and after 5 or 6 days of using it I could really start to tell a difference between a reel of this caliber compared to a 80$ reel. Not going to lie at first I didn't! The more finesse and understanding of fishing in general the more I came to appreciate this reel.
If I had to buy another reel I probably would try a shimano just to try it, but I have to give it to Abu Garcia. THIS IS A VERY NICE REEL. Full price I don't think this is a great deal but for a great sales price this reel is hard to pass up. I would like to own another one sometime in the future.
FYI I pair this with a carrot stick and mainly texas rig with this reel on 17lbs floro.
