OMG What a Frigging Incredible book! I have always Loved André Chevalier's appearance in Nikki Sex's books But he absolutely shines in his therapist role in this one! Renata and Grant are both such broken souls - each having experienced forms of abuse. As they and André share their stories, I was assaulted with a whole gamut of emotions. Moments of laughter and moments of tears and so many moments spent falling in Love with them both!
So many stories within a story - I was hooked - the pages just kept turning themselves!

Wow, what an intense, thought provoking and remarkable story this is.

Knowing that Nikki writes this with knowledge and experience from her past line of work, is truly fascinating and extraordinary.

And Andre Chevalier. OMG I love this man. So understanding, kind and loving in all aspects of his life and others. Never judges, never assumes.

This story is predominately about Grant and Renata – and how Andre helps heal them both.

Like we all know – Abuse is never okay.

Abuse happens in many forms and most of the time hidden well by the victim.

Grant is no exception. He’s ex-Army, disfigured and confused, dark and twisted about who he is and how to feel about himself. He really is a lost and tortured soul. His entire family is all messed up from alcoholism to drugs – although society seems to think they are perfect on the surface – but looks can be so deceiving.

But underneath all of Grant’s self-hatred and guilt, you can really see that he is a kind, caring man who carries an incredible guilt with him heavily. A guilt, from no fault of his own, but of what he endured as a child. The events of his childhood have scarred his adult life. It is killing him on the inside until he seeks out Andre for help.

Watching the story unfold and Grant open up to Andre was brilliant. Andre’s insight to helping Grant is marvelous. In his counselling sessions, Grant truly opens up in ways he was not expecting.

Andre’s methods are superb. His gentle insistence with Grant on meeting Renata was perfect. Renata will be Grant’s lifeline. Andre knows this.

Renata is also a long term client of Andre’s who is now working alongside him as a sexual surrogate. Helping clients with their sexual inadequacies.

Yes this is my first book by this author and it WILL NOT be my last !! Of course I plan to read all about Andre because although he is in this book quite a bit this does give much of his story , this is more of what he has become and how he helps others. I am only assuming his stories must be phenomenal !! I loved how the story was broken into parts, The Monster , The Mouse , The Monster and Mouse !! So very fitting. I loved how we had 2 major POV's in this story , of course we have Andre but there was also this mysterious POV that had you wondering the whole time ?? What does this person have to do with anything....

The Monster -

Grant is an ex army ranger and badly disfigured. A struggling alcoholic he is trying to get better and as he heads on vacation for some rehab/therapy we get the feel that not only does he have some major secrets from his past , he also may have a more recent secret haunting him. Grant has issues with social situations involving men and women. Because of his past abuse he feels his thoughts and desires are shameful and wrong. Meeting Andre had to be the best thing for Grant. Andre's approach to therapy takes Grant to a new level of trust and the barriers they break through are amazing. It was heartbreaking to learn of Grant's past and the amount of suffering he has done because of it. The next step in the process is sex therapy with one of Andre's close friends. Grant is horrified and unsure of how to feel about this. Will he be able to go through with it ??

The Mouse -

Renata came to Andre as a young girl , not speaking and reclusive. For years he attempted to help her heal and now as a 22 year old survivor she is not only healing herself but helping others to heal as well.

This is a detailed and well thought out story about two very damaged souls finding each other through our favorite counselor, André Chevalier, who has been counselor and mentor to both the hero and previously, the heroine. I love André, if I could make one character from the thousands of books I've read real, he is the one I'd pick. This is part one of a series yet to be written, but it is a full length and stand alone book. There is somewhat of a cliff hanger but you could make this story complete in itself.

The hero, Grant, is an ex-Army Ranger. He has physical scars that makes him feel his is a monster. They are nothing compared to his internal scars from sexual child abuse at the hands of his "saintly" father. He seeks André as a therapist for his PTSD and abuse issues. André is non-judgmental, kind, quick to read between the lines and get to the heart of the issue, and both empathic and compassionate. He uses normal counseling sessions, camping trips, and sexual therapy to help him heal.

The heroine, Renata, also has a history of abuse. She fled her foster home with her foster brother, Jamie, when she was only 13. They lived on the streets in cardboard boxes and ate from garbage to get by. Like many young girls from abuse, she discovers sex as a way of feeling loved and accepted. When she is 17 her foster brother, and protector, dies. Renata's Uncle is her next of kin, but he is embarrassed by her and doesn't want anything to do with her. The Uncle offers to pay off Anrdé to take her off his hands three months short of her 18th birthday. She was painfully shy and mute at the time André began to care for her.
