Unlike most pet owners in the world, I have fed my dogs high quality foods for years, with Acana pacifica being one of them. I don't buy it from amazon but get it by subscription from a pet food site for 54 bucks shipped for the large size.

what do I like about this food?
dogs are carnivores with an identical internal anatomy of the wolf. dogs do not need carbs, veggies or grains. Acana is much higher in meat than a lot of other foods, and has no grains.

firm stools! Out of all of the foods I've used, including, wellness core, TOTW canidae, acana, evo, acana always proves to give firm stools, second only to taste of the wild.

Acana is ethoxyquin free
Acana also does not denature their foods.

cons-
price....a little pricey, but on subscription it is very reasonable.
bag is not resealable
customer service sucks..never answers emails or phone calls.

I also think that, while Acana has a lot of meat content, it doesn't hold a candle to foods like , orijen evo. Orijen is made by the same company as acana, and is 80 percent meat as oppose to 60 with acana...but acana is less rich an my pup does better on it :)...I think 65 percent meat would be perfect for acana, but 60 percent is still working fine for us.

to close,
I'd recommend this food if you want to feed your pets a high quality diet that is better than 95 percent of the foods out there but are on a budget and can't feed a raw diet or a diet such as orijen. (or your Dogs JUST do Better ON THIS THAN orijen)

My dog is a very picky eater. She won't eat most of the dog foods that I've tried to feed her. With this dog food my dog eats it as soon as i put it in the bowl. Try buying a smaller bag just to see if your pet will eat it than upgrade to this bigger bag. A+

Great dog food with a terrible "Asian style dried fish smell" :) It does not suit all dogs though. I recommend that you buy first the small bag. I'm a bit crazy and bought the 29 lbs. bag right away without trying it before hand. All my dogs loved it, including my picky "carnivorous" Jack Russel. Her first preference is raw meat and bones. Second is cooked meat, third, I can't think of any, however she ate this. I did not make a slow transition because tendency is she won't eat the kibbles at all if it's served side to side with raw or cooked meat. Raw and kibbles don't go hand in hand, even if Acana is higher in protein than most brands. I also use Orijen Large Breed puppy since my dogs are all puppies, 7 months and under. I noticed they all like Acana Pacifica more than Orijen Puppy. However, my Pitbull Terrier had diarrhea with this. I fed her only the Orijen LB Puppy. I don't use this as a treat, instead I use the Orijen Puppy kibbles. The smell lingers less on my hands. The stools has stabilized it seems in only 5 days. I did not mix it with their old kibble. They refused to eat their old kibble anyway.

Best food we ever tried and we have tried a lot. We have two dogs that have been through a lot in their prior lives, one in a lab, leaving him blind and the other as a chain dog with an ingrown chain around her neck and malnourished. They both love the Acana food and whatever makes them happy, makes us happy;-)
