This adapter is indeed active. I read a bunch of reviews of this product and I came real close to cancelling just because I wasn't 100% sure that it would work the way I wanted. A lot of Eyefinity guides talk about DisplayPort > DVI adapters that "must have a USB dongle for power... if they don't they won't work", or something along that line. Unfortunately, either they are just older posts or are dead wrong. This particular adapter works just fine for a single monitor off the DVI port. As far as I know, the only instance you'd need the more beefy adapter with the USB dongle for power is if you wanted to run multiple monitors off a single DisplayPort.

Rest assured, this adapter works perfectly for my setup: HDTV @1920x1080 on card DVI, 22" monitor @ 1680x1050 on card DVI, 22" monitor @ 1680x1050 on DisplayPort > DVI with this adapter. Native resolution looks great, no artifacts, no problems so far. Check out my video review if you're still unsure.

I purchased this mini displayport to DVI adapter for a custom computer I built for my office that had three monitors that needed connected. I have an XFX ATI Radeon R9 270 video card in the computer. That video card only comes with 2 DVI ports, 1 HDMI, and 1 mini display port. In order to get all three monitors working I needed to take one of the DVI monitors and connect it to the the mini display port. It works like a charm and once the drivers for the video card were properly installed, the computer has never once had a video display issue since. I have played video games using AMD's Eyefinity setup as well as having all three monitors in use with office programs and always it's worked perfectly.

Keep in mind that this is an "ACTIVE" adapter. That means it is converting an analog based signal to pure digital. If you have an analog DVI signal coming from the monitor, you will need this or any other ACTIVE adapter to connect it to a display port. Otherwise if you purchase a non active adapter, the signal from the monitor to the video card will not work at all.

Native resolution with PC HD5770 in OS X

Works perfectly on my AMD / ATI XFX HD5770 card providing me with 3 displays running at their native resolution from the single graphics card.

I do also have 2 displays running with USB display adapters, running 5 total displays from the machine, all at native resolution.
A previously tried active adapter made by "HIS" was only able to run the display at 1360x768x32@60hz (tried two of them with the same result).

This is a PC card in Mac Pro (Early 2008) which has 2x DVI-D and 1x HDMI and 1x DP running the latest OS X 10.11.3.
Have not tested in Windows, but I would think that since this works perfectly for OS X that it should also work with Windows.

Great for my Radeon HD 5850 - Plug and Go

Works Great. I have a Radeon HD 5850 and i was trying to figure out how to make 3 screens work. I found on forums that active display port adapters were needed. I bought this and plugged in everything into the back of my computer. All 3 screens worked and now i have 3 screen monitors.

This product has never failed me and works every time- i like how the Display Port has little hooks on the back of it so it securely fastens the plug into the port - this makes sure that the Display Port adapter cable can never be pulled out

This did not work for me. My setup was:

Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB
3x Asus 25.5" 1200p monitors
Windows 8.1 with all latest drivers

I had ordered this with same-day shipping, and it failed to work. Would always get an error saying that the display device was not connected, though it was detected. No number of cables or alternating positions would rectify the situation. After two days of trying with my brother in law, I decided to purchase a different brand. I instead purchased the "StarTech.com DP2DVIS DisplayPort to DVI Active Adapter" and sent back the Accell. That one worked immediately upon plugging it in. So YMMV - if you have a different card, go ahead and try the Accell. It's reputedly one of the best, but it just did not work for me.

This worked great!

I was worried that this cable may not be a true active cable, since it wasn't powered. But I was wrong! This cabled works GREAT. I hooked it up to achieve a 3 monitor setup using my radeon 7770. All three of my monitors are working at full resolution. This cable is doing a perfect job. My current configuration (and one that I can guarantee this cable will work with) is DVI output to DVI>VGA adapter to monitor, DVI output to DVI monitor, Displayport output to this cable (DP>DVI) to DVI monitor.

A word of caution though. This cable while doing exactly what it is supposed to do; is not designed to split a single display port into multiple outputs. You need a powered display port active hub for this. They run anywhere from $70-$120 depending on size and quality. However, if you only intend to use this to supplement an existing setup utilizing analog/digital (vga, hdmi, dvi) connections it works perfectly.
