This dock is listed as a Droid dock, but as you probably already know (but just in case you don't), it's a generic smartphone dock, the identical dock is also listed under probably every name brand smartphone there is. Not that that's a bad thing, just want to be clear on what to expect.

The construction feels pretty solid, sure it's plastic but that gooseneck thing is nice and sturdy. The one-size-fits-all mechanism is compatible with the Droid, doesn't block any connections or buttons, though the end that says "audio cable" is at the other end from where the Droid's audio jack should go -- fortunately, the plug reaches, so it's no problem. To get it solidly mounted, it takes a pretty hard squeeze - there's a click right before it's solidly in there which will keep the Droid in if it's balanced, but it would fall out easily, so *squeeze* until you get the next click. I find using both hands helps.

The plug fits in the car lighter socket fairly solidly - but it seems a good idea to make sure that the gooseneck is bent and the adjustable arm tightened down so that the phone is balanced over the arm -- especially if you tend to pull a little g-force in turns :). I have only had it in portrait orientation so far, but it seems like it'll be no problem to use either way. EDIT: meh. It doesn't seem to be all that flexible, however, I have it "sort of" landscape. Will take pics & and post here.

You'll probably want the screen not to go to sleep - it's awkward to fumble for the button then unlock the phone, especially since the gripper arms kind of get in the way of doing that full, across-the-screen swipe to unlock -- and it kind of defeats the purpose of making the phone safer and easier to use in the car if you're fumbling.

I purchased this car mount to use with my Motorola Droid and overall I have been using it for about two days and so far have been satisfied with it. There are a few things though that I should point out for potential buyers.

1. As another reviewer stated, this is not just for the Droid, but other phones as well. The fit for my Droid is not as snug as I would like. I am going to try to find a shim or something to make the fit a little tighter. In the package are additional side pads for smaller phones. They stick to the gray pads that are already permanently attached to the side grips. They are about 1/4 inch thick. I might try cutting those down. The package also includes "booster" pads if your phone needs to sit higher in the mount. Not really necessary for the Droid.

2. The pictures are a bit deceiving on the length of the flexible neck. It is about 5.5 to 6 inches from the car plug to the tilt mechanism on the mount. Do a little measuring on your car to see if it will bring it up to a height you are comfortable with.

3. In my car (2001 Malibu) the lighter sockets in the front dash swivel fairly loosely, preventing the mount from staying upright. Fortunately, there was a plastic ring around the lighter socket and the hole in the dash and I used some crazy glue around the lighter socket to hold it in place. This stabilized the mount much better, though I may also use some Velcro between the top of the mount and a part of the dash to further keep it from moving.

4. As the description says, it is capable of recharging your phone. There is a standard USB port on the side of the mount. The package includes two USB cables - a mini and a micro - to connect between the port on the mount and your phone. The mini cable is about 23 inches long.

I have a Samsung Moment, and it worked just fine. I will admit, my initial results were bad - lots of static via the fm transmitter - but I live in a large metro, and we just have too many stations and many of them are faint enough to give the impression of not being a station, but are emitting just enough to invade the FlexSmart transmitter's signal. After a fair amount of trial and error, I finally found an empty frequency, and all works terrific. A good cheap solution for in-car music and phone.

This FM transmitter works great for my driod because the case I have on it is to big for the window unit Verizon sells. While charging the transmission is slightly staticy but you can unplug charger for crytal clear sound. overall good for navigation, music, n taking calls while driving. Keep volume at mid range on phone otherwise it sounds terrible..

This phone holder has served its purpose. It was easy to set up and the signal came in clear. My only issue was there is no support to hold all the weight up. The mount relies on the plug in the outlet to hold it all and it does if you start on a south road with no bumps. Over all I am pleased with the holder and how easy it was to program to the radio station for hands free cal ing.

use it with a motorola droid and it works great. it charges my droid with no problem and As a bonus it charges my bluetooth headset (or any usb device). Pretty sturdy too. The first one i got i had to return because the button release broke, however you don't really need this functionality for the motorola droid as they provide sticky spacers where you just kind of wedge your phone in between (assume its the same for iphone too). Just remember to have the phone in lock mode so the camera doesn't go off when you place it in there. I dont use it to listen to phone conversations through the speakers, however when i have it connected through the radio and my Bluetooth headset plugged in, it correctly diverts the call audio to my headset and not through the speakers. Overall it does exactly what i bought it for and then more. Definitely recommend.
