A good Samaritan stops to help him, despite the danger he poses to her
Laine Wheeler knows better than to stop for strangers on the rural Montana highway near her home, but her conscience won’t allow her to leave an injured man behind.
What she doesn’t know is the man is an undercover ATF agent tasked with infiltrating a domestic terrorist group. His cover has been blown and helping him will put her life in danger.
Though there is an instant attraction, Jack knows that beginning a romantic relationship with Laine would be both unfair and unwise. Yet the farther they run, the harder it gets to ignore the feelings that are surging between them.

These characters leap from the pages into your heart. I hate books where the hero is some billionaire perfect guy that no one can relate to. I want to relate to them. Hero Jack makes you believe you could meet this flawed man and you could be Laine Wheeler. Their journey to HEA seems real. Love love love this book. Cannot wait to read the author's second novel about "Bear". Bear reminds me of one of our local heros in Houston JJ Watt, but just a little older with big blue eyes and blond hair. Please get this book finished Leslie McKelvey. I have read Unlawful Contact from Pamela Clare about two dozen times over the years, this book will probably get read the same amount in upcoming years.
If you love the authors I have mentioned, you will LOVE this also. Well worth $5.99 Kindle price. In fact, it was a bargain for the pleasure I received from reading it.
About Time :), November 6, 2012By Kate AllentonVerified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Accidental Affair (Accidental Encounters Book 1) (Kindle Edition)I have to say that I originally found Chapter 1 on her blog and I have been dying for her to release this book because I wanted to know what happened next. It keeps you hooked from the beginning. Very well written and a joy to read. It's one of those books that we all crave. The kind that you want to stay up all night reading, just to find out how it ends.... And then when it's over, you wish there were more. I hope there's more to come... maybe Bear's story.... just saying :)
Thoroughly enjoyed this book!, February 10, 2015By mmemooksVerified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Accidental Affair (Accidental Encounters Book 1) (Kindle Edition)I fell in love with Laine and Jack straight away, I loved their chemistry and the heat ;)- One of those books that immediately draws you, you have to keep reading, but at the same time you don't want it to end. In fact I stayed up until 4am reading! I've now purchased the second book, Right Place, Right Time which follows the story of Special Agent Bear Bristol. If you love suspense, action and sexy bits, read Accidental Affair, Leslie McKelvey knows her stuff. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

About the Author
Leslie is a veteran of the Gulf War who served with the U.S. Navy, and she was among the first groups of women to work the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. During her five years of service she was stationed at NAS Miramar, Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, and her squadron frequently deployed to Japan and the Middle East.
She learned everything she knows about firearms and tactics from her police officer husband, who is a weapons expert, firearms instructor, and range-master for one of the most highly-respected law-enforcement agencies in the world (and one he wishes her NOT to disclose). She has three boys and spends her off-time (kidding...WHAT off-time?) reading, taking pictures, and sending lead down range (that's shooting, for those who are unfamiliar). One of her favorite scents is the smell of gunpowder in the morning.... --This text refers to the paperback edition.

About the author

Leslie McKelvey has been writing since she learned to write. Finally, at the ripe old age of...forty-something...her debut novel, Accidental Affair made it into print through Black Velvet Seductions Publishing. Right Place, Right Time is her second novel, and Her Sister's Keeper closes out the 3-book "Accidental Encounters" series. Runaway Heart is her most recent release and a full-length, standalone novel. Her fifth book, Final Kill, hit shelves in December, 2016.

If you love the authors I have mentioned, you will LOVE this also. Well worth $5.99 Kindle price. In fact, it was a bargain for the pleasure I received from reading it.
The characters are wonderful. It is impossible not to care about Laine and wonder, throughout the book, why she left her former profession. You are also left in suspense about what happened to her husband. Because she is such a realistic, compassionate character, you hope she finds herself by the end. Jack, the man she helps when she finds him on the side of the road, is similarly compelling. And Bear, who only appears near the end of the book, is an unexpected delight.
The novel is in equal parts suspense and romance and it's hard to really say whether it is one or the other. This is one of its great strengths. I do not normally read romances and wasn't sure if I would like this book, but I did not feel that it adhered to any romantic formula. It was a genre book that often elevated itself above its genre.
The dialogue is also wonderful - the people all sound very real. The novel requires a suspension of disbelief, but it's a disbelief with which I found myself eager to part. I give this book two thumbs up!
McKelvey mines deep knowledge of law enforcement to create a realistic and exciting story which intertwines love tension and threat of death by turn. The contrast of the two compelled me forward until I turned the last page and then returned to the first one to start all over.
It's hard not to root for and admire both Laine's pragmatism, calm under duress and growth from a grieving widow to woman in love; and Jack's tender/tough foil and determination fueled by his first true love.
Sigh...
