Flustered, Eve ran to the back of her truck, praying the man was not dead! He did scold her for not paying attention while she was driving, but he said she did not have to pay for the repair of his dented bumper. Instead, he wanted her to drive him and the young goat he was delivering to the next town. Joshua kept up a steady flow of conversation, and she found herself laughing a few times. The town busybody came out to latch onto Josh about visiting her granddaughter and to scowl at Eve. By the time they drove back to his out-of-gas truck, it was late and he invited her to stay in his spare room since his ranch was close by. After a little resistance, she finally accepted his offer. And by the time they got back to town, everyone knew she had spent the night! The adventure was about to begin!
I really loved this book! The story line just melted my heart, and I chuckled my way through the pages. The characters were wonderful, defined so well by their actions that I felt like they were old friends. Eve and Josh were delightful, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story from beginning to end. I definitely plan to read more from this talented author, and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all!
She has left the old her behind, the cheating ex-husband who was jealous of her, the painful memories of losing her mom, all of it. In search of herself, and not looking for anything to do with men at all, Eve was not paying close attention. She was looking at her phone to see if there was a signal to it yet, she was using it for GPS. Then fate steps into Eve's life and she will never be the same again.
His truck breaks down, he is delivering a kid (billy goat name Billy the Kid) to a friend in the next town. Back from going to college and becoming a billionaire, Joshua has his own demons hounding him. His father doesn't approve of him or his choices, a truck that is broken down and now the driver of the truck coming at him almost runs him over. Life seems to be frowning on him, until the truck stops and the woman gets out and the fireworks begin.
Both Eve and Joshua have scars on their hearts. Some people wear them on their sleeves and some people toughen up and build walls around the damage that has been done. Eve is the later. Hurt by her ex-husband, but allowing herself to take the blame for letting go of herself is all that consumes her. She is frozen in this space. She works at a little diner as a chef, even though she graduated from a top notch culinary school. This is fine though, to Eve this is a beginning. Nobody to consume her, but a lonely existence, she doesn't trust easy, and that includes making friends. She does have one, and that is a waitress at the diner she works at. But things are about to turn Eve's world upside down.
Joshua graduates college, becomes a billionaire, but is lonely. He doesn't let many in, as they are only interested in his bank roll, once they find out the amount of money he has. There was a lot of things that have made Joshua the man he is today. His father just so happens to be the one thing that is the hardest thing to let go of. His father doesn't approve of Joshua's decisions, but big hearted as Joshua is, that is fine, he will just be who he is and try to win his father over. The day starts on an off kind of a day, and that is where Joshua learns that fate its own game to play.
The twists start right away, the diner is sold to someone who is the devil's bride (to be kind) and Eve is her prey. It is a theme that this devil woman is out for Eve. The reason is a made up one, basically on the the demon woman's mind. The fireworks between Joshua and Eve start quickly and progress just as quickly. There is the demon woman to deal with, the facing of Joshua and his father, a friend of Joshua that comes into town, Eve running away every chance she gets in order to outrun her feelings. There is also the friend helping Joshua out, a firing, a woman who quits, a packed truck and a last minute no holds bared effort to convince someone to stay. There are surprises at every turn, and there is a very happy ever after for Joshua and Eve.
