SPOILER -- Don't read if you are going to get upset. I started reading and this one looked promising. I could understand the heroine desperation in looking for a job and for how she got into the deal of being a date for $1,000 for one afternoon. Not bad pay and NO ONE held a gun to her head. Her getting even with him was funny at times especially when he started giving her as good as he got. It was easy to see how they got caught up in events to try and make the aunt happy.
I was okay with it all until the "evil" ex came on the scene. Now the description we have of her the first time we meet her she is far from "classy" as the dates he is supposedly dating. She came across as a gold digging tramp - hardly opera material. Didn't like her and didn't see any reason why she had to be introduced. They had enough problems without her. But I decided to keep going. Then she proceeds to embarrass and humiliate him at every turn simply because she "THINKS" he was messing around with his ex. Did she just ask him what happened? NO, she was just so sure she knew what was happening. From there things went downhill for me. I found that I really didn't like this heroine AT ALL. So, I quit reading. Not going to waste my time when I am not enjoying it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
But before I get into that...let's talk about what this story is about.
Madison is an aspiring actress who is also having some financial strains. One day her friend overhears a woman at a store proclaiming to quit her job as Jared Jameson's secretary. That is how Maddie finds herself heading to his office to apply, even though she doesn't know the first thing about being an assistant. But, how hard could it really be?
Jared mistakes Maddie for his friend's cousin who was supposed to be his hired date for his father's birthday get together. He doesn't let that faze him and changes tactics by offering Maddie that temp job. She thinks she will do this and she'll get a real job at his company. She quickly discovers that Jared's noncommittal "maybe" meant that there actually is no job for her and he tricked her into accompanying him.
Maddie decides to get him back by showing up at his family's house and announcing that their getting married. But the joke/revenge bites her on the butt when Jared's dying Aunt Shelly requests to see his marriage before she passes away. Now how could they say no to that, and pretty quickly they get caught up in their web of lies.
What I Liked:
- Madison was so refreshing as a heroine. She was witty and quick on her feet, not one of those heroines that stutter and blush all the time. The stories she was making up about her and Jared were hilarious!
- Jared was a stuffy suit but he really loosened up after spending time with Maddie. She just had that effect on him. And I liked that he wasn't same super a-hole (most of the time) that would be all to common for the CEO trope that is a dime a dozen in the romance genre.
What I Didn't Like:
- Whenever Maddie would show any strong emotions, like being angry or crying, Jared would blame it on the hormones.
"Of course, women often made no sense. It was probably hormones. The bane of every man's existence."
"Good heavens. Were her hormones going to be on overdrive this while trip?"
That really ticked me off. Like, can she not be angry without her hormones making her feel this way? I just found that ignorant and offensive.
- The fact that it was a clean read. I only got kisses! Boo!
- That ending. He was a colossal jerk in the end and it totally ruined their relationship for me. I was so rooting for them, but after Jared makes that douche move, I was done. He also needed to grovel more. All that assuming the other person doesn't want anything more was also annoying. Just talk it out!

Madison Nichols, an aspiring actress, is doing... quite badly. With no job, no gig, and no income, she's not going to even have money to pay her half of the rent. After she got a tip about a possible open position as personal assistant to CEO Jared Jameson, she just barged in hoping to score an interview before the position was even advertised. However, there was no open position, and due to a misunderstanding, she ended up playing his girlfriend to his family, a one-night gig, instead of a job. So she sassed him back by announcing to his family that they are engaged. Jared just about saw red, but Madison was outmaneuvering him left and right. Then Jared's aunt, who has cancer, wanted Jared and Madison to marry in two weeks, because she's afraid she is not long of this Earth, and Jared, who fear disappointing his aunt, decided to stage a fake wedding. What they didn't plan on, was for Jared's father to overhear their plans... and set a different plan into motion... For they can tell that Jared and Madison had chemistry... if they will just admit it to each other...
The two actually did have chemistry together, and both had character arcs that they had to travel. He started off as an arrogant jerk and deceitful bastard, but only to reveal that he hired a fake girlfriend just to make his aunt happy. She started off as sassy but a bit down on her luck and prideful, but ended up, well, in love! It's sweet and funny tale for your guaranteed HEA.
