This product works with the Accu-Chek meter; with attached lancing device. The drums are a convenient way to use the test strips; different from the prescribed (by my health professional) One Touch meter and strips, but these are limited to 17 per "drum", the "vial" of the other has about 25 or 30. Loading the drum into the device takes a little getting used to, but otherwise, is fine. I use this as a "control", i.e., a second check against my One Touch items. Nice that I can mail order these without a prescription; which is important, as I try to keep a daily check on my blood sugar. [The above-mentioned reasons are why I didn't give it five stars.]
I have nothing to say about the product itself (which is great). My complain is about the expiration date of the product; I received the product in February 2013, and realized that they will expire only 4 months after (June 2013). As I don't use this on a daily basis, I will lost most of the strips (as the meter will not accept expired strips). Usually those strips expires 18 months after production date, so think twice when buying the strips online. Now, I will only buy those strips in my local drugstore.
Love the idea that I don't need to mess around with inserting test strips. Just be careful that the meter isn't accidently turned on because you will lose a strip because the meter automatically ejects one for use. Once the strip is ejected for use you cannot return it back into the meter. If you are not going to use it for testing you will need to eject it from the meter. If the strip is left poking out of the meter it can become unsterile.
These test strips are part of a system that is extremely convenient to use. Unfortunately, my insurance says I have to use those horrible individual test strips with a newer system which I find very difficult. This machine itself is great because it take a simple battery, unlike the newer testing equipment which has to be charged. I understand that after the strips that I have are gone, I will not be able to get more (unless they are very outdated) and that is a shame. I am going to stay with this system for as long as I can. The expense is well worth it.
The description says, "For use with ACCU-CHEK Compact and ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus." That is not accurate. The box says for use in Compact Plus only, but I thought I'd try it out anyway. My Compact Plus just spins and spins when I put in the test strip drum. It fits, but it does not work in the Compact version of this test kit. Also, the box you get is a different color! Vendor needs to correct this! $51 is too much to waste, so I'm trying to get my money back now!
Have used the ACCU-CHEK tester and test strips for years. Started buying both from AMAZON when CVS required singing oath to purchase all medical testing equipment exclusively from them. I prefer to pay cash out-of-pocket verses medical insurance when some one demands marketing exclusivity. Last time I checked, the USA is still a Free-Market country. Only wish there was some way for AMAZON to accept medical insurance. for payments. Thanks AMAZON.
