What does this mean? For me it means I'm going to go with this one. While seeing the digital readings is very cool (sometimes disappointing, but cool...), I'm not convinced they are the most accurate. Then again, if I'm losing another 2% when I use the manual calipers... why wouldn't I want to use this one?!
In this package you get the calipers and a MyoTape tape measure which allows you to lock the tape measure in place for more accurate readings. Very easy to use and read. You also get a 5x7 card with two body fat % measurement charts (one for men and one for women), measurement tips and an explanation of how to use the calipers with step-by-step directions.
NOTE: it is recommended by the makers of this product that if you are obese, you should not take skinfold measurements. They suggest using the tape measure instead. The one included in this package goes up to 60".
Overall, I think this is a good buy. Easy to use, accurate, inexpensive and a device that I will use for years to come.
What I don't like about this caliper is that the scale may not be accurate. Am I measuring 39mm, 38mm, or 37mm? On advanced, more expensive calipers there is no guessing on what the measurement is. To keep it short, I don't think putting the scale in increments of 10 for mm is a good idea.
The instructions inform you to calculate your body fat percentage, to pinch your belly. This is a very incorrect way to estimate how much body fat percentage you have. The reason why is that you're only basing your results from one measurement. The body fat distribution is different throughout the areas of your body. In order to get a more accurate body fat percentage, the person must be doing a triceps skinfold AND subscapular skinfold. Belly skinfolds and thigh skinfolds are not necessary. After getting the skinfolds of the triceps and subscapular area, the following formula must be used to calculate body fat percentage...
Females: % body fat = 0.55(TSF) + 0.31(SSSF) + 6.13
Males: % body fat = 0.43(TSF) + 0.58(SSSF) + 1.47
Skinfolds are in mm. Subscapular skinfold (SSSF). Triceps Skinfold(TSF).

The caliper is all plastic and should be treated with care, but if used properly is very accurate and easy to use.
The myotape is awesome! I was not planning on buying the myotape, it just came with the calipers, but when i got it and used it, it was amazingly simple and brilliant. I can measure arms, forearms, calves, thighs, waist and chest in about 60 seconds, as where before it would take 10 minutes to take all those measurements.
At just under $10 this combo is unbeatable.
