Typical Ace Combat Awesome-ness

I'm a big fan of the Ace Combat series. I've played 4 (with controller on PS2) and 5 (with the flight sticks on PS2). I finally got around to purchasing this bundle just 2 weeks ago and have gotten to the final mission. AC 5 is still my favorite; mostly because of the lack of primary character development, third person storytelling point of view and cheesy dialogue used in AC6.

As any veteran of Ace Combat knows, the missions can be very challenging. The lack of sufficient checkpoints (not enough of them at all) means you may end up playing the first 10 minutes of a mission multiple times. I do this all too often; I make a minor error or end up getting shot down and have to start the mission all over again.

Another complaint I have is getting a plane suited for a ground attack (eg:A-10) as the mission pre-brief describes, and then finding out after the mission is "done", that enemy fighters are closing in and the player must defeat a given amount of them (without dying) before the mission can be done "for real". As you may imagine, defeating 3 or 4 Su-33's using a slow old hog like the A-10 is not ideal.

With those issues out of the way, this is an amazing game, both play-wise, visual-wise, and as an all around flying sim/arcade experience. The Flight sticks and cockpit-only-view are a *MUST* if you intend to fully appreciate everything this game has to offer.

I once rented this game to test the waters of Xbox Live after a friend of mine told me he had bought it. I loved Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War on the PlayStation 2, and I quickly grew to love this one just as much. Not going to spoil the story here, but suffice to say it hooks you from the beginning. And the Ace Edge flight stick (which, for those wondering, is a retooled Saitek X-45 and an excellent controller) is almost a necessity for playing the game. It's more than playable with a standard Xbox 360 controller, but the Ace Edge is much, much easier on the wrists and thumbs with all the maneuvering you have to do. The game is responsive, not laggy at all and absolutely beautiful in both appearance and execution. In addition to the normal in-game aircraft (most of which exist in the real world, including my personal favorite, the F-16 Fighting Falcon), there are plenty of downloadable craft for you to use, and many of them are free (including another favorite, the Su-47 Berkut). The single-player campaign is riveting and enjoyable, and this is one of the few console games in existence where I actually use the multiplayer mode, simply because it's that much fun to play, especially utilizing the Xbox 360 headset (which can be plugged into the right-hand component of the stick).

And speaking of the stick, it's 100% compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7, utilizing the same drivers as a standard Xbox 360 gamepad. This is now my go-to controller for many a classic game, not the least of which are Star Wars: TIE Fighter and Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance. This bundle costs a pretty penny, to be sure, but it is more than worth the cost just to have the stick alone. Can -not- give Namco-Bandai enough praise on this one.

I've been a AC fan since it's days with playstation and have played every AC game! I really enjoyed this one on the xbox360 and it reminds me of the previous game on the "other" console. They've made some improvements to the game that make it a more enjoyable game. You get 6 special missiles vs 4 from previous games, the graphics have improved tremendously. The sound efx sound on par with previous games. The flight stick looks just like the Hori flight stick from AC5 on playstation and gives your playing experience much more realism vs playing with the xbox 360 controller. Ace Combat 6 and Forza 4 are the main reasons I purchased an Xbox360 to compliment my PS3!

This limited edition bundle is simply great buy the game itself is awesome the graphics are mind blowing I have Panasonic 42 inch 1080p hdtv with HDMI connection to both my dvr system and xbox elite system the sound the graphics the story everything is top nosh it looks like high budget action movie during play .the flight stick is still pack because I had no trouble playing the game with wireless controller I use to play jet fighter 4 and 5 but this game sets the bar high way above the jet fighter series just a note to new players if you like to fly your aircraft from the inside (cockpit view)press the Right stick downwards on wireless controller.... in short it is a great buy I might use the sticks with my computer instead of xbox 360 well lets see
