Get the Windows activation key from the BIOS ASAP

The shipping was fine and the laptop has performed fine for the past 2 weeks.

The Windows activation key for the pre-installed Windows 10 OS is not provided on a sticker or piece of paper that ships with this laptop. Instead, the activation key is embedded in the BIOS (motherboard firmware) and when the BIOS is updated the key is lost (the Acer Aspire E15-573G ships with a BIOS that needs to be updated). I updated the BIOS without first getting the activation key and now my activation key is gone. This means that when I re-install Windows from a recovery disc, I'll have to call Microsoft to get a key over the phone; if I'm lucky, they wont think I'm trying to pirate their software and they'll give it to me. I have had mixed results with this in the past. If Microsoft doesn't give you a key over the phone then you'll have to buy another OS license. If you buy this laptop you should immediately get the activation key *before* updating the BIOS (you can figure out how to get the key from a quick internet search).

3/5 instead of 5/5 stars because Amazon, Acer and The TuTu Train are not letting people know about this before they buy the laptop.

I've had this laptop for two years now. My goal was to get an affordable laptop that had great graphics (I'm an artist) and good gaming capacity (according to Steam, I spend about 1/12th of my life playing computer games). At the time, this laptop was on sale for around $500 and it could not have been a better deal. It has been so reliable, the screen quality is great, I can play almost any game (it overheats on Ori and the Blind Forest, but not Minecraft or Skyrim like my old Acer did). I spend about four hours painting every day and watch Netflix while I paint. I haven't had any issues with streaming video at all, and like I said, the screen quality is great.
Like any computer under $1200, you're not going to be able to do crazy stuff like use shaders and realistic texture packs on Minecraft without significant lag and overheating. But if you're not a professional gamer, you're probably not going to do that anyway.
I WOULD ADVISE that you go ahead and get a cooling pad with this laptop. It's a 5-star computer because it was cheap when I got it and it does everything I want it to really well, but, just like my old Acer laptop, it occasionally overheats. Take good care of the battery and the fans. Pay attention to what makes it overheat and avoid that. Keep it clean.

tl;dr this is a great computer for slightly-more-than-casual gamers, artists, and Netflix bingers.

Really happy with this computer! I was coming from a Dell XPS L501x that had served me well for over 5 years. It was still working but the battery was shot and it was starting to get slow. Also, I was really looking for something that could manage a little bit of gaming.

You can't find anything else even close for the price as this computer. I paid $500 for this thing. It's relatively thin and light, and plays Skyrim on high settings. The great thing about the chipset in here is that its low power, so the power brick is very small. As someone who transports this thing every day, weight was an issue for me.

I would say perhaps the only negative is the slow hard drive. I could have installed an SSD, but then the price starts to creep again. My goal was to have a solid, fast computer that can do a little gaming as well as the work for my job. You will see the slow hard drive when you're loading a level in a game, but for the price I can most definitely live with that.

All in all a really solid buy. I'm very happy with this computer.

I am so satisfied with my new Acer Aspire Gaming machine. And I have gamed a little...and will more in wintertime.
I am 85% adept with Win 10 but wish it was Win 7. It's not, so I deleted a lot of content and am doing just fine with Win 10.
But this is about the laptop. It is a perfect size, the keyboard was easily adapted to. I had a huge desktop before.
I bought and returned two laptops (not Acers) , then it took me months to dare buy another.
I'm glad I did. The screen is wonderful, easily adapted to. I use a tiny mouse with it.
I tried the touch pad and it worked fine, but for what I needed the laptop for..the keyboard and mouse work great.
I had an external hard drive with which I moved most of my personal files and applications. I also had an external DVD drive with which I made a rescue disk and a full back up.
Thiis Acer Aspire fills all my needs perfectly and cost less than the two bummers I bought and sent back before.
I'lll mention that HP let me return the machine and refunded immediately.
Dell argued with me..the laptop had a French OS with no way to change to English. Though I bought it on their 'holiday return' drive, It took weeks for Dell to finally agree to take it back. It took over a month for me to get my refund.
Draw your own conclusions.

I finally chose Acer because my oldest son has one that plays WarCraft as if it was made for that game.
I play high graphics games and they work great on mine! It has a wonderful, dedicated 2 G NVidia Graphics card.
I don't long for any other computer now that I have this acer Aspire.
